@PghComics Is there any book or family of books, other than Absolute, that is firing on all cylinders right now?

@JoeManganiello next time you’re in Pittsburgh come over and play Heroquest

@Frank_Frangie I’m all for competent umps but removing the heterogeneity of each ump’s interpeted zone is boring.

@MSBIntel This is just the start... People have no idea what's coming

The CEO of Anthropic says nobody is paying attention to what's about to happen.
"The most surprising thing has been the lack of public recognition of how close we are to the end of the exponential.
To me, it is absolutely wild that you have people talking about the same tired old hot button political issues...
We're near the end of the exponential."

@casualinfer @noah_greifer @EpiEllie @LucyStats Late listener to this one, enjoy chats about propensity scores and matching. Another omnibus test evaluating match quality is the crossmatch test.

@rocco_botte @viperwave I thought we were all talking about cost. It cost me $50 for me and my son to see Spongebob and get popcorn, soda, candy.
English

@viperwave I thought everyone would automatically know I meant audiences talking/going on their phone but I unwillingly tripped into a terrible twitter meta thing

lol there is one specific singular problem that literally all my friends talk about that is THE major factor in avoiding theaters and these chains do nothing about it lmao

AMC says attendance fell nearly 10% as year-end blockbusters failed to draw crowds at the same pace as past years (@THR)

@NoLimitGains Is this ruling just giving money back to companies that increased prices due to tariffs, who presumably won’t bring prices back down? Isn’t this a double pay day for them?
English

@grigsbysworld @AndrewMayne But what happens when AI can design an entire indie video game in less time with less money?
English

@AndrewMayne You right, its like how when Deep Blue beat Kasparov in '97.
Famously no human ever played chess again after that because what would be the point?
Now the chess championships are just wall to wall computers.
English

In 18 months we went from
- AI is bad at math
- Okay but it’s only as smart as a high school kid
- Sure it can win the top math competition but can it generate a new mathematical proof
- Yeah but that proof was obvious if you looked for it…
Next year it will be “Sure but it still hasn’t surpassed the complete output of all the mathematicians who have ever lived”
English

@BoringBiz_ Why wouldnt they just make money more valuable and create a larger class divide? Why is there an assumption of altruism? We wont need brains or knowledge with AI.
English

State of AI right now
> Anthropic CEO talking about AI winning nobel prizes and taking over the world within the span of 5 years
> Elon talking about AI making money completely useless and creating infinite prosperity for humanity
> Google using AI to solve quantum computing and drug discovery
> OpenAI is talking about adding ads to their LLM
The discrepancy is uncanny. OpenAI might be this generation’s Netscape

@JoshuaCarter603 @flowidealism Any entry level position will be so competitive that someone without a degree won’t have much of a chance.

@jludwig86 @flowidealism Learn the necessary skills, apply them to some projects, apply for entry level positions.
I don't think the OP was implying Amazon hired his son for his current position as a teen immediately after dropping out.
English

My son earns a great six-figure salary solving interesting intellectual problems at Amazon, optimizing the world's largest network of server farms. He has time, energy, and leisure for a wonderful domestic life with his wife and daughter. He also dropped out of high school.
His decision delighted me. It demonstrated that he understood a high school diploma has no real value. He simply enjoyed thinking from a young age and developed the habits of mind, including mathematical thinking, that led him where he is.

@jludwig86 @NHL94Podcast no concave buttons and the wire is significantly smaller, you'd only want it for the colors ig

@BenjaminDEKR So what are those people going to do without jobs? How will they earn money?
English

@GameSack @realmaddox How does the console keep active memory when reset is pressed so it doesn’t start a new game?
English

@realmaddox If you played it on a Sega Nomad you were truly fucked even if you knew exactly what they wanted you to do. No reset button on the Nomad.
English

Every now and then I'll remember the 5th stage of X-Men on Sega Genesis, where the game prompts you to "reset" as the giant computer in the stage is supposedly glitching. The only way to pass it is to physically press the reset button on the Genesis. I never did that because why would anyone do that and never passed that level. I think about it randomly from time to time and get just as pissed off as I was the day I found out. I've been mad about it for years.

@delujog For some reason all the fluid milk superconsumers are mad at me but the sales data shows that fluid milk sales are off a cliff, with premium cheese and cultured dairy partly taking up slack
