@KevinWolffart Man, I remember being really upset by this as kid! Falling for his goofy charm on the Saturday morning FF cartoon only to watch him go full-on HAL 9000 and then destroy himself was akin to seeing Scooby-Doo getting rabies and Shaggy being forced to take him out behind the van!

Playing the game and getting the nostalgic feeling is from 3 links: 1) the original controller, 2) the game timing, and ) the image. Emulation breaks the timing and anything but the original hardware on a CRT breaks the image. The media (CD or floppy drives for PC games) only introduce loading delays that we complained about or tried to find ways to reduce back in the day. Nothing wrong with collecting the media but using it has no impact on the nostalgia (unlike the analogy of records/music)

I don't want to 'just emulate'. Emulation doesn't have that same 'visceral' feel. The people damning ODE need to understand that they are great to not sideline a console that would have been left unused due to a dead drive or to keep a working one going by giving it less wear.

Seeing disgruntled people. I want it to be known: The drive in the PSX was already faulty. I own 3 other systems that are perfectly working and preserved. Two still CIB when I bought them on clearance back in 2001. Dreamcast's drive is safe and secure. Easy to slot in again. ->

Man I'm about ready to give up on trying to collect these Marvel comic collections. Like who can afford $200 on a book? Must be a lot of people with better jobs than I have. It just sucks to be priced out of a hobby that I grew up with because of resellers and scalpers.
