Why is it that actual human jobs like baker, florist, teacher, and childcare worker barely pay a livable wage, while fake jobs like AI specialist bootlicker, marketing campaign parasite, and synergy consultant are pulling six figures?

@davidrkadler With all due respect, I always find irritating the argument that high amount of expenditures should be among the reasons to reconsider killing people in illegal wars. I mean, people are dying, and reasoned opponents are thinking about their pockets?

The White House is preparing a military operation against the Cuban people — entirely behind the backs of the US American people. This is democracy? Who voted for this illegal war? Whose money will be spent to kill innocent Cubans? And where the fuck is the Democratic Party?

The modern Anglo convention is that a "scholarly" text must have some kind of "argument" in it, but no exclamation marks. The old European texts, on the other hand, have lots of exclamation marks, but no argument I much prefer the latter

@NisanyanHimself @Cemaatsiz1 @vakisasi @Hayriyedereli Çekyalı bir arkadaşım anlatmıştı: orada adet eşeğin arka ayaklarını işi görenin botlarının içine sokmakmış. Hayvan kaçamasın diye. Haliyle botların, herhalde plastik çiftçi botları, büyük ve geniş olması gerekiyor. Buradan büyük bot giyenlerle ilgili türeyen şakalar. çok içmiştik

@NisanyanHimself @kryc07 @eskimeyentvit Ya bi film vardı, konulu değil holivud filmi 😁 kadın bir gece yalnız evde takılırken gaza gelip köpeğine oral seks yapıyordu. Bunu da sonradan nişanlısına itiraf ediyordu. Ortalık karışıyordu tabi.

A trade this easy, right in front of you How people can't see that higher fertilizer and fuel costs lead to higher ag prices is unfathomable And then throw in all the US and Australian crop problems, the export bans, Brazil problems, etc. Extreme cognitive dissonance
Javier Blas@JavierBlas

Key food commodity prices since US-Iran war started: 🍚 Rice: ⬇️ -6.3% 🌾 Wheat: ⬇️ -0.5% 🥫 Soybean: ⬆️ +0.6% 🌽 Corn: ⬆️ +2.7% As with everything else in this war, all depends on escalation. But talk about a "food crisis" or a "food shock" is premature.

Awful, heartbreaking, unacceptable We’ve just been at the funeral of two young volunteer paramedics in southern Lebanon - killed in a direct Israeli strike… one was only 16 years old They were killed whilst wearing their full kit according to witnesses - returning from the scene of an earlier strike The deliberate targeting of healthcare workers is a war crime but Israel has killed dozens here in recent weeks (and many more in 2024 and in Gaza)

@tparsi Trita Parsi again with the absurd analysis. The man just makes things up and basis his entire arguments on absolutely made up nonsense. There’s a reason the guy never became a citizen of the USA, because he would be a traitor and be put in prison as a traitor immediately

Energy industry insider in Iran tells me the following, and it is STUNNING: Before the war, Iran produced just shy of 1.1mn barrels of oil per day, and sold it at $65 per barrel minus $18 discount (i.e. $47) Today, it produces 1.5mn barrels a day, and sells it at $110 with only $2-4 discount. And this does not include petrochemical sales that not only have increased, but are now being sold to a larger set of customers compared to before the war. Moreover, Iran is receiving payments through new mechanisms that bypass the UAE, which were set up after the June war. In essence, and this is really important to understand, Trump and Israel's war has ended up delivering Iran de facto sanctions relief. This means that Iran is all the less incentivized to end the war, unless the agreement provides Iran with formal sanctions relief.

Signal > Noise Have there been talks? Who knows...does it matter!? The signal is - Trump has pulled back on his ultimatum, Trump is seemingly seeking de-escalation & Trump looks to be trying to find an off-ramp That feels like the most important bit right now imo

It's important not to shy away from candidly discussing the President's increasingly erratic behavior. His worsening instability is a clear and growing threat, not only to the American people but to the world.

@tparsi Iran's biggest power plant is 2.9GW Damavand gas power plant, supplying Tehran. Naturally, it has a critical importance in the electricity supply of hospitals and water pumping systems, and it is, without any question, a war crime to target it.

Trump just threatened to bomb all of Iran's power plants if Iran doesn't open the Straits within 48h. We know Iran will not comply with this threat. If Trump follows through on his threats, Tehran will likely strike at energy facilities throughout the Persian Gulf as well as in Israel. By now, it is really foolish to think it won't. An already bad situation will worsen with rising oil and gas prices, higher grocery costs in the US, and the closure of most remaining exit ramps. Escalation only intensifies the lose-lose scenario. Both sides need to get serious about off-ramps. Neither side should seek the humiliation of the other. Neither side can force the other's surrender. Both have to be able to construct a convincing narrative of victory for their own audiences. They may not realize it yet, but both the US and Iran ultimately have a common interest in such an exit.

It is time for an honest discussion about Turkey’s role in destabilizing the Middle East. Erdogan’s foreign policy began as a bold, rebellious, neo-Ottoman vision—an ambitious attempt to restore Turkey’s influence over former Ottoman territories. However, this vision was eventually co-opted to serve Western interests in the region. What proved intolerable to the West, however, was Erdogan’s growing hostility toward Israel, exemplified by incidents like the Mavi Marmara crisis. The turning point came in 2016. On a fateful night, Erdogan found himself on the brink of elimination during the coup attempt. Forced to plead with his people over FaceTime—appearing like a character pulled from a bad parody—he narrowly escaped an assassination attempt by commandos at his resort in Marmaris. That night, the old Erdogan died. The message from the West was clear: opposition to Israel’s agenda was unacceptable. Erdogan capitulated almost immediately. Since then, his resistance has been reduced to little more than hollow rhetoric. His behavior over the past 13 months underscores this transformation. Despite fiery speeches, Turkey continued to supply oil to Israel without interruption, and Erdogan has worked to undermine Assad—one of Israel’s staunchest adversaries in the region. Critics are right to point out that the United States and Israel benefit most from these developments. Yet, their success would have been far harder to achieve without Turkey’s willing participation. Turkey has become a hub for militant state-sponsored Islamism, with its influence stretching from Syria through Central Asia to China’s Xinjiang region. It is Turkey that targets so-called “Turkish brother nations” with a toxic blend of radical Islamism, revisionist history, pan-Turkism, and victimhood propaganda. This strategy not only extends Turkey’s influence but also radicalizes individuals, turning them into tools for Western geopolitical objectives. The infamous Crocus terrorist attack in Moscow, for instance, was traced back to Turkish training camps. Meanwhile, the jihadis left festering in Idlib have been unleashed once more, spreading chaos across Syria as they did a decade ago. This chaos is not incidental—it is cultivated, supported, and funded by the Turkish state. Under Erdogan, Turkey has become the world’s largest state sponsor of terrorism, a willing accomplice in advancing the U.S. Empire’s objectives in the region. The rest of Erdogan’s posturing is mere theater—smoke and mirrors designed to deceive only those still willing to believe in a dream that has long since died. From Moscow to Beijing, it’s time to face this reality.

@marklevinshow If you really really want to free people, make them rich. Then things will change. This means, don't sanction their country. But if you sanction, and PLUS bomb their country, they'll hold on to their rulers however bad it is. If freeing people isn't just a cover story for you...
