@mikesimonsen Partly anecdotal, I would tweak slightly and say once you are over that income threshold people start having 2+ kids. Few working professionals earning less than those numbers are having 3 kids but of those having kids many are having 2.

Looks like in NYC people feel comfortable having 2 kids once they’re above $2mil in annual income.

@thebeltwayagent @conorsen Agree. I do wonder if some of the improvements might be in high quality software becoming cheap/free for less tech-oriented industries like construction. IIRC Lennar called our their SKU management system as a driver of cost savings. Maybe those become cheaper to build.

One question I have, even if ai is a good as promised, when you look at where there are bottlenecks in our economy, it’s not clear having everyone be a master coder would necessarily increase gdp or productivity, if A.I. Robots can build houses or do surgery different story, but that seems somewhat far away.

Instead of stealing from people raising families to support seniors consuming much more housing than they need we should reform zoning & build more.

for me the odds that AI is a bubble declined significantly in the last 3 weeks and the odds that we’re actually quite under-built for the necessary levels of inference/usage went significantly up in that period
basically I think AI is going to become the home screen of a ludicrously high percentage of white collar workers in the next two years and parallel agents will be deployed in the battlefield of knowledge work at downright Soviet levels

as a software engineer, i feel a real loss of identity right now. for a long time i defined myself in part by the act of writing code. the pride in a hard-earned solution was part of who i was. now i watch AI accomplish in seconds what took me hours. i find myself caught between relief and mourning, awe and anxiety. the craft that shaped me is suddenly eclipsed by a machine. who am i now?

@quantian1 Just need to find the right buildings. Plenty of places on UES/UWS have $2.5k/mo 1100sqft 2bed/2bath.
Manhattan carrying costs are brutal though. Go to queens and they're like $500.

I toured a seven figure condo last week—which was marginally nicer than my current apartment—and the carrying costs of association fees and taxes was more than my current rent even if I paid all in cash up front. Holy shit young people are unbelievably fucked in this country.
