@ramit @ramit they resent their audience or resent the fact they are trapped in a beginner spiral of topics, bored out of their mind, and trapped by the algorithm and their audience’s expectation. (I wrote a chapter about this in my book, the perils of a broad-impact business model.)

Underdiscussed in self development: Creators who end up hating their audiences Here's how it happens: - Creator starts talking about money or productivity or relationships - They notice the largest audience is beginners, specifically those with major problems - They begin to cater to this audience, targeting people in severe debt or chronic relationship problems - If they're a successful creator, they begin scaling their income & business, becoming more sophisticated - But as they become more successful, they have almost nothing in common with their audience -- especially since they chose to target the lowest common denominator. They start to resent their audience ("I did it, why can't you?") - But they're trapped, because if they try to change audiences, their audience will rebel I noticed this dynamic around 2006 and I decided I never wanted to hate my audience. In fact, I wanted to build an audience that got me excited every day. Today, my audience is full of people I like and admire and would hang out with! They're awesome To avoid resenting my audience, I became very selective about who I serve through the topics I chose, the channels we play in, and even the language we use. I intentionally cultivated an audience of people who want to live a bigger, Richer life As a creator, be mindful of this. Having a profitable business is great. Having a profitable business with an audience you admire and love is even better

AI is such an incredible workflow enabler... had coffee yesterday with Maria and wanted to start correctly filing expenses for these business conversations around Matthias Frank Consulting So instead of using a generator that asks me to click a dozen times (it's nice sevdesk but could be nicer 😎), I asked Google to quickly create one for me Now I have a chat interface where I can just dictate my expenses (using either Wispr Flow or Monologue by Every Inc.) and it outputs a pdf in seconds is it perfect? no, still a few quirks and need to manually download and upload it to sevdesk but next step: getting on something like LOVEABLE and adding the API calls so it uploads it directly into my bookkeeping ✅ drink coffee ✅ talk about it to AI ✅ expense correctly booked (even with the only partial 70% rule for German Bewirtungskosten) absolutely insane! if you want to see a video about this, let me know below and ping LOVEABLE so we can get a cool European collab going here! 😎

It's interesting to see Keap get acquired for $80M at $85M annual revenue. Valuations aren't kind when revenue is declining. A good reminder of how hard it is to build long-term sustainable software.

I've decided I'm going to do another six month stint without alcohol or coffee. I'm saying it here as a way of holding myself publicly accountable. Last time I did this I felt better, slept better, had more even energy, and generally felt like I was living the most sustainable long-term strategy for being present in all aspects of my life. This is unfortunate because I *really* love coffee and also enjoy the novelty of trying new cocktails and wine alongside meals at great restaurants. Will report back. I'm guessing this might be step one of a permanent change.

Our email newsletter growth has almost completely flatlined the last few months My theories as to why: 1. Rise of AI Overview on Google and ChatGPT/Claude generally means fewer people visiting webpages from search engines 2. Long-term decline of independent blogs as a traffic source (all roads lead to our blog, which is where people usually subscribe) 3. Increasing dominance of TikTok, other shorts platforms, and YouTube, which are difficult to convert to email subscribers 4. Post-pandemic slump after a few years of unusually high online activity Any others I missed? And any email growth tactics that seem to be working well right now?

How was your day? Here’s what I did in my business today: • Subscribed to @AddEvent_Inc to use it as a simple way for people to add my Skill Sessions and group coaching calls to their calendars. Will first take it for a spin with my upcoming free Client Generator session I’m doing on Oct. 16. If you want an invite to that, join my newsletter - invite is going out this week. • Sent a custom 5 Step Plan my client @jslackey who has a great business helping expertise-based businesses become more profitable and efficient. I’m helping her clarify her messaging and product offers. • Added a poll to my welcome email for new subscribers to my newsletter. I’m using @ConvertKit’s embedded poll functionality and tags. Now my welcome email asks new subscribers what their main content platform is for their business. When they answer, they get an automated email based on their answer with a link to a resource related to that platform. And those resources are video excerpts from my podcast where I share a strategy for that platform. So I’m learning about them, giving them relevant value, improving deliverability of future emails, segmenting my subscribers for future use, and introducing them to my podcast/Youtube channel. Not bad, right? • Wrote/scheduled all the daily issues of my newsletter for this week. Spoiler alert: Tomorrow’s issue gives you a way to figure out if your newsletter is actually “working” or not. • • • So, how was your day?
