@ben_m_somers Its an obviously effective complement for kids with higher agency and curiosity. Shouldn't be the default first gate though.

Alpha is dope and I'm a big fan of their methods but kids at Recess definitely will be taught with chatbots; interactive chat-based experiences with widgets mixed in will be a big part of the future
Carl Hendrick@C_Hendrick

This cannot be emphasised enough. Kids at Alpha are strictly NOT being taught by chatbots. However, behind the scenes, AI is helping to shape the design of curriculum, instruction and learning in incredibly powerful ways that I never thought possible.

@jsmithkchoops I don’t know. I let my 6yo use the Palmer Luckey gameboy thing as much as she wanted but she lost interest. If it became too dominant for too long I would probably restrict or interpolate with other goals (you can earn this after you do X and Y important things).

Seeking advice on offering handheld gaming to 5yo. Pokemon enthusiast, want to stick with the top down pixel graphics heavy text games encouraging reading and basic strategy (and appreciation for 2d > bad 3d). Creating laminated check chart of goals we want 5yo working on more diligently. The distinct goals have been a hit for him and highly motivational, then we discuss moving goals after we feel he's mastered and created habits. Where I struggle is how much do I allow him use of the device? Tentatively my plan is full completion of days activities -> 20 minutes of time. Stack it or use it however he wishes. I want to allow him to make the choice to regulate it himself in the future but don't know a better way to direct him other than creating this time-boxed step towards that. @mbateman I know you did a ModRetro for yours, if you have anything learned along the way I couldn't find a ton of follow up in your posts :).

@Sherman_FFB IMO Penix wins that job easy and new OC could make that a non dumpster fire. But still, thank you for your donation.

You can't say Marshawn Lynch, Jerome Bettis, Derrick Henry, or Adrian Peterson. It's 4th and goal at the 1 and you need a TD ... what back do you give the ball to? I'll start: Mike Alstott

@NateSilver538 Extremely common. Between it nonsensically unable to reason through these situations and randomly getting judgementally indignant with me it's very annoying.

I find this pretty common. Opus is like "should I take a shortcut or be more rigorous?" and recommends taking a shortcut when the only cost to being more rigorous is that it has to write a few extra lines of code.

We’ve automated every single thing we can @every with AI agents. And yet there’s way more human work to do than ever. We’ve gone from 4 -> 30 human employees since GPT-3. I wrote a report on the structural reasons: how AI makes expert competence cheap, why that drives up demand for experts, and why the dynamic only intensifies as we approach AGI. After Automation: every.to/p/after-automa…

ChatGPT rough at generating maps. Had it anchor to a few things near us and just wildly off. Don't need it to generate USA and Missouri as can get well done matte prints of those. Local is the issue and library no good atlas maps to copy.

Current kid project is generating maps of USA, Missouri, and the area of Kansas City we reside in for 5yo. Local map centered on our house, cardinal directions he can understand from his room. Label friends houses, landmarks etc.
