@timmort_ Think you’re right. I wonder if capital growth of livestock farms might become stagnant for a bit? Due to profitability, especially over ROAM. As you pointed out in your other reply. Why would you borrow money at 5-7%, to make 1-2%? 🤷🏻‍♂️

@jsmort2 Not sure Jocko. Capitalise on some capital growth? Try sell while price outlook for livestock is pretty good?

Macquarie attempting to sell the entire Paraway Business. Interesting timing 🍿. As someone who works for a smaller livestock corporate of sorts. I always saw Paraway as the first livestock corporate. A lot to learn from their model I think.

Anybody got any good investing/managing economics podcasts they listen to? I’ve been listening to Dave Ramsay, I know he’s American but like the talkback aspect and real life scenarios that get discussed etc. Something similar but Aussie would be great!

@AgriFocused Negatives outweigh the positives imo. Less competition in rural merchandise etc. Bigger companies seem to have more admin costs etc that outweigh any benefit in purchasing power etc. Will be interesting to see if ACCC allow

@jsmort2 300hp front wheel assist tractors were $120 an hour ish Jocko to dry hire (+-$20). With minimum hour requirements of 80 hrs a month or something. Maybe half or 2/3 the above? Treat it like a hire car - photos/damage report before it goes.

@hasselljpb How many farmers live export? How did NZ live exporters transition? They built processors/found new markets/value added. Like any modern business they adapted! Aussie food security does not depend on live export, it depends on modern innovative business, resilient to meet change

@KerinPollMerino @baileyagco It sticks out down here in the Riverina as well, some of those that still run stock are just the ‘couldn’t be bothered doing anything types’ & have nil pasture base, the ones that used to push their pasture & treat them like crops have mostly gone cropping

" YOU CAN'T STARVE PROFIT INTO A BUSINESS” Has the fixation on cutting input costs 💰 in the high rainfall grazing zones of Australia actually cut the head off the goose that laid the golden egg? IT NOW SEEMS TO BE A RACE TO THE BOTTOM 🤷‍♂️ INPUT COSTS 20 ha paddock planted 14/4/24 Lime $148 ha Fertilizer $180 ha Chemical $125 ha Pasture seed $210 ha Contract rates $180 ha Total input costs $843 ha or $341 acre =$16860:00 TURNOVER *288 heifers have grazed the 20 ha pdk 3 times for total of 24 days @ an Average daily gain 1.9 kg per head = 13132 kilos of weight gain @ $3:75 kg = $49248:00 divided by 20 ha = $2462:00 ha or $996:00 acre Return on investment in 5 months = 292% Cut the fat out of your business not the muscle 💪 Grass Rough maths let me know your thoughts 🤷‍♂️ #kerinpollmerino #lambex24 #forflockssake #nextgenagri #optiweigh #MLA #AWI #bestwoolbestlamb #sheepvention #merinowa #merinosa #merinovic #merinonsw #southwestslopesfielddays #prowaylivestockequipment #Droverag #wagyuaustralia #angusbeef #wagyubeef #beef24 #mla #awi #ranchingforprofit #RCS

Tropical grasses over sown with temperate grass, clover & herb blend 🌾🌱☘️ This stand of mainly Digit now has opportunity for good counter season production. This particular soil type doesn’t hold water very well, so very useful in capturing and utilising effective rainfall 🌧️

Looking for some advice on share farming: putting in an application for a lease block, 1/3 can be farmed. How does share farming typically work? Would like to sow some crops for grazing, was thinking of doing a deal with a nearby cropper. 1/2

@jsmort2 Not too much to ask, just need to find a farmer that you have good communication with, that you can work out cost/profit share that suits. We respect property ownership with 25% share of crop and machinery ownership with full contract rates. 50:50 on all costs
