@zoink There’s a difference between skepticism and cynicism. One can be healthy, even necessary. The other turns you into a crank.

Holding a cynical worldview is depressing. Yes: there are times where such a view can accurately predict behavior. However, it is not the way I want to go through life. I want to trust my fellow humans and believe in their better nature. How do you fight cynicism every day?

@scottbelsky We’ve had calculators for a long while now, so I’m skeptical that this sort of stuff just out of the blue wipes out learning. Those who want to do the work and learn will do the work and learn, and those who want to skate by will skate by.

the greatest loss here is not math skills, but developing the tolerance for struggle. a huge degree of homework, school...is gaining comfort with "not knowing" and committing to the struggle of learning. humanity needs to preserve friction, if only to retain our tolerance for it.

Brexton is one of the hardest working individuals I’ve ever had the pleasure of jamming with. Thrilled that @seriesfinancial is finally out of the bag. 🙌

I can't code. I have hit walls in my career because of that inability. I've tried to learn, failed. Tried again, failed again. I learned to be okay with it. It's a blocker, not gonna lie. You're always reliant on someone else to implement, build, or see things though. I've learned how to work with developers to help build products, to be as close as possible to their workflow. I've pushed no-code tools like @webflow and @framer to their limits to make websites, apps, and actual products, but there's always been a big gap left unaddressed. Understanding data. Digging, sorting, grouping, aggregating, and checking to see actual numbers for usage, adoption, or just any idea that only the database can answer. I've always had to rely on a SQL-savvy developer for that. Like I said, I can't code, and I especially can't write SQL. I also don't like to distract developers just to see if a random thought related to our product is useful. A few months ago, we decided to see is we could use @OpenAI inside of @Basedash to solve that problem. We've been testing that AI-SQL assistant for a while, and today, we're launching it. It's amazing. And I'm not saying that because I design Basedash, I'm saying it because I'm now daily digging into our product DB to look up ideas I have around how our product is used. No more data blockers. No more waiting on developers to check an idea. No more distracting them from work just to help with a JOIN or mundane query. I just have to type in what I'm looking for, and the AI does the rest. It took a ton of work to get the integration right, but it's a massive feature for us to have in our product. I can't code, but with our SQL-assistant, I don't have to. You have to try this out with your data. Basedash is free for smaller teams. Like 5 minutes to set up, no joke. Also, for you skeptical devs out there, we restrict to only SELECT statements, so no way to break anything. Our entire driving force with this feature was to unblock devs, and to empower everyone else. You have to try this.

I bought some UCB-C headphones and they don’t answer the iPhone 15 or hang up calls, they just seem to want to control the music. Oh wise Internet, is this a fixable problem?

A decade ago I first visited @zoink at the small @figma office in Palo Alto. They were working on blending modes that week. We continued chatting on and off throughout the years, and finally all the pieces fell into place. Excited to work with this crew ❤️
