.@WHOSom's Representative a.i. Dr. Mohamed Ali Kamil, along with @MoH_Somalia officials & other partners, launched the 2026 Health Emergency Appeal to ensure access to essential healthcare, boost emergency response, and strengthen coordination with national authorities.

With rising needs & funding gaps, the appeal stresses the urgency of collective action to protect Somalia’s health gains and save lives. Continued support is vital to prevent further facility closures and reduce preventable deaths.

Encouraged by the response by Malawi after confirmation of circulating variant polio type 2 in Blantyre. A Public Health Emergency was declared in Jan & within weeks nationwide vaccinations reached 97% coverage. 1.3M+ kids vaccinated. Strong partnerships. #EndPolio ⁦

Last week, in response to the diphtheria outbreak, @WHOSom, in coordination with @unicefsomalia & @mohplso, successfully vaccinated over 400,000 children under 15 across Puntland State. #DiphtheriaSomalia #VaccinationWorks #HealthForAll.

In the Eastern Mediterranean Region: 🔵About 36 000 children aged 019 years are diagnosed with cancer every year.🔵Over 70% of children with a cancer diagnosis died in 2022. With an early diagnosis and appropriate treatment, childhood cancer is highly curable.

#InternationalChildhoodCancerDay reminds us that every child with cancer deserves quality care. Every 4 minutes, 3 children are diagnosed with #ChildhoodCancer.

In 2025, the Health Cluster, led by @WHOSom in collaboration with the @MoH_Somalia, reached 4.2 million people in need and coordinated 72 partners to maximize collective impact across the country.
