We went from "adjusting the block size ever so slightly is unthinkable" to "let's just freeze coins because we don't like what could happen to them" in a decade. That would have been unthinkable in 2017.

@cortisquared Je pense sincèrement que si, si les gens avec des salaires haut partent. La mobilité des gens est en hausse, surtout avec la communisation de la France. IMHO les rentrées vont baisser.

Liana v14 RC1 is out (on GitHub). It makes improvements across the board, especially on UX/UI. As many changes are part of this release, we would appreciate for people to test and report any bug you find. v14 will be available as soon as we are satisfied with the amount of testing.

Plus de 126 638 clients exposés, dont 6 000 pièces d’identité (CNI recto/verso), sur une période de 3 ans (2023 à 2026), comprenant des données sensibles. Données compromises : ➡️ Identités complètes ➡️ Adresses, emails, numéros de téléphone ➡️ Historique des transactions ➡️ Documents d’identité Risques majeurs : usurpation d’identité, fraudes, cambriolages ciblés.

@KLoaec @EricSirion @brian_trollz Actually it probable that much of the exposure is in coinage locked by lost keys (often by deceased owners). The old P2PK and re-used P2PKH addresses are the issue. Those UTXOs are likely to remain dormant until "Q-day" when recovery becomes a social/legal matter.

Finding consensus on how to deal with the >1M BTC in vulnerable p2pk addresses, unlikely to ever move to secure ones, is the true challenge in quantum-proofing Bitcoin.

@niftynei I think the biggest factor was weighing these factors against already existing systemic exposure. Between reused addressed, and wallets exposing xpubs, I believe it was something like ~80% of the coin supply was/is quantum vulnerable. Hashing schnorr keys doesnt change that.

Silent payments is not just a new approach to static payment codes. It's the first serious contender to improve the address derivation system since HD wallets in 2013. HD wallets were a big win over single keys, and silent payments could be a similar leap forward.

@brian_trollz That's a great theoretical and very principled argument. As someone living on Bitcoin I'd rather not have the kind of volatility caused by potentially a single actor with QC access suddenly owning 8% of the total supply. Idk where I stand yet regarding this tbh.

Our approach to security is to not play with cryptography ourselves as much as possible, and we are waiting for Rust-Bitcoin and Rust-Miniscript to support it. That being said, it's taking a long time and we might end up doing it ourselves if we have to.
