BREAKING: FedEx driver who pleaded guilty to kidnapping and murdering 7-year-old Athena Strand, has been sentenced to death. Tanner Horner snatched Athena while he was delivering a Barbie doll to her home in Paradise, Texas. At one point during the trial, jurors broke down in tears while hearing audio of Horner killing Athena after he told her to take off her shirt and said she was "really pretty." Athena repeatedly asked for her mother before she was killed. "Horner is then heard asking Athena to remove her shirt, and there are several moments when she says "no" and asks for her mom. That was followed by repeated sounds of crying, screaming and banging," NBC reported last month. Following three hours of deliberation today, Horner was sentenced to death by lethal injection.

@Mr_Husky1 Depends on where I'm going. High end restaurant or night on the town I add the tinsel to make me feel all put together. Everyday activities no fuss. I retired five years ago, make-up was a requirement. It took a minute to like my fresh face.

Someday, I’m going to get to tell my whole story. All the bizarre details. All the personal stuff about other people who I protect even though they’ve not done the same for me. And then things will start to make more sense. All I know is that I lived my life for a god who abandoned me when I needed him most. Who refused to answer when I called on him in my darkest hours. Begged him. Pleaded with him on my knees, tears streaming down my face. Refused to help save my marriage or my faith or anything else that mattered. I made him my highest priority. As a young man, I didn’t party, didn’t sleep around, never skipped church, never did anything. From the time I was 15 on, I lived my whole life around my faith. And even so, he made it clear that I don’t matter in the slightest. I appreciate the kindness of people who tell me he loves me, because it means THEY do. I’m always grateful for sincere prayers, because they, too, are acts of love. But when it comes to god himself, and his supposed love, there’s no evidence in support of the assertion. There are just stories and guilt trips. Easier for me to believe in no God, or an indifferent, watchmaker God, than a God who never bothers to act like the father he’s supposed to be but is supposedly good. I already had a real father who didn’t know how to do the job. But despite his grave failings, I at least believe he loves me in his own imperfect way. Can’t say the same thing about the God of the Christian mythos. I know this post will get replies. Some will be kind. Some will be smug, self-righteous, and condescending. More than a few will probably blame me for somehow causing this divine abandonment through my own insufficiencies. Thanks, but no thanks. I’m already stocked up on my own sense of disposable worthlessness. I don’t need more. But a life that feels like more than smoldering bomb crater that’s not worth existing in doesn’t seem like too much to ask. At my age, what’s left to even hope for or redeem? The only dream I ever had was to have a family. To grow old with someone who loved me and watch my kids come home with their kids. But I wasn’t enough. I’ve never been enough. So now I get to spend the rest of my life hunting through wreckage, trying to find scraps I can call a life? Hard not to feel like I must have deserved this, despite my best efforts. Yeah, I know, we’re not supposed to be this fucking honest in public. I’m “crashing out.” I’m just “having a pity party for myself.” Say or think whatever you want. But pray you never get to the point where you have nothing left to lose other than your life, and you don’t much care about that anymore either. I’ll still get up tomorrow and try to make sense of things. I’ll still hunt down meaning, and write through the pain, and do my little podcast, and try to substitute something wholly insufficient for what I’ve lost, because what the fuck else can I do? But a day is coming when maybe none of that will be enough. When the distractions don’t work anymore. When I can’t get numb enough not to collapse. I need a miracle, fam. I don’t know what shape it needs to take. I can’t presume I know much of anything. I just know that the end of this road looks pretty terrifyingly dark from here. I’ll take whatever light I can get.
