Yesterday we hand harvested a green bean trial @UF_HAEC. We are testing efficacy of fumigation or an in-furrow nematicide for managing plant-parasitic nematodes in this crop. Green beans are a relatively new addition to the traditional potato and cabbage in this area.

Today I got to visit the UF/IFAS farm in Hastings where I conducted my PhD research and got to hang out with my co-PhD advisors Dr. Weingartner and Dr. Dickson. These guys were the best mentors I could have!

Later in the day, with my colleagues Dr. Kipronoh Ronoh (Agriculture) and Eng. John Tanui (ICT) and area leaders, we visited and engaged farmers in Kapkayo, Soy South Ward, Keiyo South. The area is highly fertile, with strong potential for a variety of fruits and nuts, among others, which can significantly boost farmer incomes and support economic growth. Through the fertiliser subsidy programme, farmers are now accessing affordable farming inputs on time, thereby improving productivity and increasing yields.
