buddy in Miami for the weekend tells me his itinerary is Liv, ele11en, SoHo beach house, living room Showed up to padel hung over then has the nerve to say “idk how people live here”

I have been in Miami 2 months now. I have not been to a club a single time. I mostly see other nerds (coworking). I've been to the beach twice, each on a saturday morning. Airport 10 minutes away. My weekly activities are Padel, Backgammon, Kundalini Yoga. It's what you make of it!

@auren Depends. I think the fact that we’re Miami-based but all of our customers are LatAm enterprises makes it make sense. If that weren’t the case, we would’ve likely been in SF or NY.

@lap0921 hard to re-run the past, but do you think you'd be more successful if you spent the last 6 years in SF?

interesting that so many people move to Miami. so hard to get work done there: so much glitz, Lamborghinis, and beautiful people. Tampa is almost certainly the best place in Florida (and the most under-rated city in America): great weather, super airport, sports teams, more.

Miami is great in a lot of ways. I’ve been here full time for 5+ years, after living in SF from 2017–2020 and working in tech. I’m fully ready to spend way more time in SF than Miami. Miami has a lot going for it, but I’m building a tech company, and SF is easily 100x the opportunity in network, talent, and pace. My parents moved to Miami in 2009 and most of my friends/family are here, but Miami just isn’t fulfilling if you’re extremely ambitious in tech.

Share this view of Miami boom feeling Miami has the alt health metrics for a city: Family oriented -% of population children -How integrated children are into day to day life Civic art & beauty -Public art (whether art is good or not) Miami has ongoing investment in public beauty, art everywhere, etc Influx of people -People moving from multiple other states/countries to be there Government that wants a better life for its citizens -Govt that appears focused on making its city & people happier and more successful in an ever better environment Industry cluster for something central and/or compounding -May be the weakest on this. Strong on tourism, real estate, LATAM/international trade. Some finance and tech moving there, but still not a major cluster for something central or compounding fast yet
Patrick Collison@patrickc

Miamiposting might be a phenomenon whose time has passed, but having just spent a few days visiting, it really does feel like a boomtown in a way that no other American city that I've spent time in over the past few years does. In some ways, it reminds me of Chinese cities.

It’s been a whirlwind year for @TheFintechFund. The fund is into its fourth year of investing, and after 3 years of background work, chopping wood, and conviction – 3 years in which fintech was radioactive and nobody believed in stablecoins – it’s exciting to see the work start to pay off. I feel incredibly lucky for the great fintech community that I get to work with every day. The fund year in review: • Jan – Zelody pre-seed • Jan – @CoinflowLabs strategic round • Feb – @stableseaHQ seed round • Feb – @Bmoniapp Seed round (doubling-down from pre-seed) • Mar – @abodemoney seed round • May – @tesote_ seed round • May – Confido Series A (doubling-down) • June – Steward Series A (doubling-down in 6 months) • June – @AcctualTeam seed round • June – Domeo pre-seed • Aug – @CoinflowLabs Series A (doubling-down in 6 months) • Sep – @rainforestpay Series B (tripling-down) • Sep – Moment Series C gets pre-empted • Sep – Flyra pre-seed • Sep – Portco @getTransFi raises its Series A (we invested at pre-seed and seed) • Sep – Portco @brale_xyz raises its Series A (~8 months after we invested) • Sep – @Bmoniapp raises a pre-empted Seed+ • Oct – Embassy seed round • Oct – Decoda raises a Seed+ • Oct – Nominated as one of 20 funds to present at @raiseconference • Nov – Valinor seed round • Nov – @stableseaHQ raises a Seed+ • Dec – @WiseLayer acquired (12 months after investing) • Dec – Float seed round • Dec – Cobalt ID seed round • Dec – Bluefyn pre-seed • Dec – Better Money seed round I'm grateful to be here and fired up for what 2026 will bring – onward! 🚀 (Wrap-up inspired by @ac_steele's @ActivantCapital year-in-review.) @twifintech @thestablecon
