@JakobIngvardsen @neosovietposter there are only a handful of genuine cases wherein an acronym has become a word. scuba, radar, laser, chud, neet etc
English

@neosovietposter People love to backform acronyms these days
English

Twink is not an acronym it’s legitimately just an idiosyncratic slang word
Lustigieg@invalidaterus
@iiwasinthee212 i thought twink originally stood for "Teenage, White, Into No Kink" ? i feel like black people cant be twinks the same way whites cant be trade
English

@LovePassant @videogomez ah, what's it about? i came across this on my FYP and had to wade in haha
English

@lemonman37 @videogomez This is not about literal instruments
English

@videogomez @LovePassant wrong and there are too many counterexamples to list. rock riffs played on the saxophone sound silly for the most part
English

@LovePassant if you replace the guitar with a saxophone you'll improve any song.
Free Bird solo with saxophone goes harder.
English

@delfactoid @tolecrien it stands alone. greatest star in the universe
English

@Pusboy2 @Brocklesnitch i remember there was one where they implied "peachy" rhymes with "lychee". idk about elsewhere but "lychee" in my accent is "LIE-chee", not "leachy". that one really threw me.
English

@Brocklesnitch Was it supposed to be Pomeranian? Still annoyed by that 'Russian rhymes with shin/calf rhymes with decaf' bullshit from last year.

this screenshot feels relevant here

@jaavi_ivaan @Brian_Ybzee @burryishere plate tectonics requires an ocean, which is why only Earth is known to have it. Venus may have had plate tectonics at one point, but it lost its ocean and so the plates stopped moving.
English

@jaavi_ivaan @Brian_Ybzee @burryishere earth is unique among known planets in that it has plate tectonics, which causes the plates to move around until they collide into a supercontinent. when that happens, tectonic activity slows and volcanism increases until the supercontinent rifts apart and the cycle repeats.
English

i mean theres land under all the water, so by that logic isnt the world just one big continent

@BalenciNgomas @realwow_mao "normie opinion is that they suck" no it isn't, it never has been. that's the contrarian opinion
English

@realwow_mao I say this with zero irony in an age where the normie opinion is that they suck. Tomorrow Never Knows and Happiness is a Warm Gun shits on a lot of modern bands' best albums.
English

@Y2K_mindset That was a crude way of putting it, but I just needed to get my foot in the door by identifying something I knew how to approach. I know how to critically deal with riffs, so it was a matter of finding the riffs. Once I had a few, the rest fell into place.
English

@Y2K_mindset I'm not going to say "listen again", but there are obvious grooves in certain songs, e.g. "Pena" has a fun little swing in the outro. I eventually cracked it by identifying those grooves, then realizing that each song is made up of grooves layered on one another
English

@potatothLad @Y2K_mindset Why? Trout is his best album. Safe as Milk is excellent but it's only a sample of his real art, and the Trout mode runs through each of his subsequent albums. Can't understand Doc or Shiny Beast without Trout
English

@Y2K_mindset Idk Captain Beefheart is pretty fucking good. Trout Mask is obviously pretentious af but the rest of his discography is great. People should remember him for Safe As Milk, not Trout Mask Replica
English

@celinedionysus_ captain beefheart is wholly innocent but i don't care for zappa. i love the lester bangs review of hot rats, where he's largely dismissive of the album but dedicates a long section to captain beefheart's one verse
English

@jrmamana Have you read Gracyk's "Rhythm and Noise"? It's among the more influential aesthetic accounts of popular music and it advances that exact thesis. You may find it interesting if you've not read it already
English

It’s really funny how the movie is like a 4/10 but it’s also one of the best Star Wars movies for the sake of actually committing to doing something different and because of that, gas is now $5 a gallon.

Luke Skywalker’s stand on Crait in The Last Jedi (2017) had the whole theater locked.

@MALIgAssocias_4 literally the opposite would happen. they can't possibly be this stupid. also even if former farmland were to erode or whatever - who cares? it's not like they would need it anymore.
English

@themisnnemesis @PedroRivie95096 @johnsemley3000 "a random person" upon whom a major world religion is based. historical jesus is still famous and impactful even if he was not holy - if he was real, which he almost certainly was, then he is probably the most famous person ever.
English

@lemonman37 @PedroRivie95096 @johnsemley3000 when people refer to jesus is about the son of god not a random person who lived a long time ago
English

I think the argument can be made, rather easily, that he was the most famous person to ever exist, and the most famous person who will ever exist.
