@FixingEducation It has become normalized to pull kids out for “extended vacations” annually. If a young student misses 6 weeks of instruction, what do you think is going to happen to their learning trajectory?? Teachers can’t fix this.

Chronic absenteeism is a major challenge in schools, often leading to student academic struggles. Yet, teachers are frequently blamed for the outcomes.
It’s time to recognize that schools and teachers can’t be thought of as the sole solution to all of our kids’ challenges.

The “average” comes from counting leaves as “sick days”. For instance, when my friend was on leave for over 100 days because she was battling cancer and I myself used no sick days, it “averaged” to over 50 days between us.
