Were you at Tuesday’s lake view east meeting? Cubs senior vp of community affairs said that one reason that fans need more spots is for people like his 93yo dad can’t get from Belmont/lsd via walking or public transit so the 93yo drives. Lots of issues using an emotional reason, elderly driving, and why can’t there just be more ada spots instead of general parking Also mentioned the ratio of fan to parking spot. I was hoping the room would clap when he said whatever Wrigley’s stat was (biggest outlier in the mlb)

@run2dajewels @cornoisseur And don’t forget about how his pockets were lined during his time as acting zoning chair when he got the 3600 block of Sheffield (2) rooftops/ (1) TORCO buildings approved to be taken down to make a dismal apartment building.

@cornoisseur Bennett alluded to him approving it at the last SNA meeting. this is all performative. he’s been bought, there is not a single one of his resident constituents who are for this lot, and if he does approve it, he should be investigated. he didn’t get the zoning chair for a reason.

We'll just say this: It's going to be very difficult for promoters of the SAFE-T Act to say the SAFE-T Act was not the reason a judge put Alphonso Talley back on the street. Our story is coming late tonight....

Of the 30 largest police departments in the United States, CPD has the lowest percentage of civilian employees, at less than 8% of its workforce. A new workforce allocation study identified 604 sworn police officers — people with badges, guns, and the authority to make arrests — currently assigned to jobs that require none of those things, such as timekeeper (42 officers), watch secretary (98 officers) and police district administrative support staff (85 officers). These police officers are not on patrol. They’re not building relationships. They’re not responding to calls. CPD can move these officers into roles where sworn expertise is actually needed, and hire civilian professionals to back-fill the positions at a fraction of the cost. This misuse of talent is hurting public safety.

NEW: Two landmark reports on the Chicago Police Department dropped last week. They revealed gross misallocation of talent, poor management practices, and no unified framework for how officers are expected to engage with the public. thelastward.org/p/how-to-bring…

#UPDATE: A Cook Co. judge granted a request from prosecutors to detain Jose Medina, the suspect accused of murdering Loyola student Sheridan Gorman. A lot of new info. came out in court. Those details are below and the quoted thread has initial details from his arrest🧵 @WGNNews
Courtney Spinelli@CourtSpinelliTV

#BREAKING: Chicago police announced charges against 25-year-old Jose Medina, who law enforcement and city sources confirmed to me is in the U.S. illegally from Venezuela, of murder, three counts of aggravated assault/discharge of a firearm, and aggravated unlawful possession of a weapon in the murder of 18-year-old Loyola student Sheridan Gorman. Medina, who had a prior charge of retail theft in a case in downtown Chicago in 2023, was taken into custody Friday night by Area Three Detectives. Sources tell me a gun was recovered during the search warrant execution at his home, several blocks from the crime scene. The suspect has been hospitalized, where he’s remained under guard, and a mugshot has not yet been taken/released.

@jp465crockett @clayharbs82 Agreed. McCaskeys need to sell more than their 77% share of team to gain more wealth for the franchise. And Warren needs to work to keep the team in Chicago. Have they done any polling on this?!

@clayharbs82 Don't be an apologist. Bears r just as much to blame here. Warren is not acting in good faith. Mckaskey's need to stop crying poor, and sell a significant portion of the team. I just hope they have to abandon the bears name. They can be the Toxic Wastes

Thoughts on the Bears stadium: 1. Illinois deserves a lot of blame. 2. Bears have been trying for over a year to get a deal in Chicago. 2. The Bears aren’t a charity. Indiana’s corporate taxes are half of Illinois, clearer, faster deal. More revenue, more control. #DaBears

The not-Chicago Bears? Today the Bears released a statement saying how excited they were for their “vision” of a taxpayer-funded stadium in Hammond, INDIANA. Umm…nope. If you can’t afford to keep the team in Chicago, sell it. Period.

WATCH: The best exchange of last night’s Cook County board president debate. Incumbent Toni Preckwinkle is asked whether she still supports Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson, who she endorsed for Cook County commissioner and then for mayor. Preckwinkle now says she prefers to “stay in my lane.” Brendan Reilly’s response: “I wish you had stayed in your lane when you endorsed Mayor Johnson. It hasn’t worked well for us.” The Democratic primary is March 17. Early voting is now open at the Chicago Board of Elections office (69 W. Washington St.) and the new Chicago Board of Elections supersite (137 S. State St.).

WATCH: This is so typical of @ChicagosMayor. When @MaryAnnAhernNBC asked the mayor about 9 custodians laid off at City Hall being counterintuitive to his constant talk about protecting laborers, Johnson said he as mayor had given raises to the working class. What good is a raise when you get laid off?

I have said it many times, “Enough is enough!” Chicago taxpayers cannot always be forced to pay for the actions of criminals. Today seventeen of my colleagues joined me in voting “No” on an $8.9 Million settlement that resulted because two armed teens hijacked vehicles, tried evade capture, and killed a bystander in the process. Her death is a tragedy - no question. But the originators of this tragedy aren’t the City or its police. It is those criminals that live with zero regard for the lives of others.
Chicago Sun-Times@Suntimes

The surprise rejection by a vote of 18 to 15 was the latest sign that an emboldened City Council fed up with the avalanche of settlements tied to allegations of police wrongdoing is no longer willing to rubber stamp those giant pay-outs. chicago.suntimes.com/city-hall/2026…

What I find interesting is IF this was totally random, why take Nancy Guthrie? If they intended to rob her and then killed her, it would be Highly unusual to take her. If it were a targeted kidnapping, why no ransom demand? Very unusual for an abductor of someone this age to wait this long to ask for ransom. Who would benefit from Nancy's demise, if she is found deceased? Typically family would be the first for LE to speak to and determine if there is any involvement. Who outside of family was she close to? LE will start inner circle and move out. It was clear early that this was foul play... She had No cognitive issues. She was taken. Below is a recent @TODAYshow appearance so you can see her mannerisms and hear her voice. #NancyGuthrie #SavannahGuthrie #MissingPerson
