It was great to be among so many fellow Canadians in Washington last week for a North America Summit aimed at strengthening cooperation between Canada, the United States and Mexico. Our southern colleague @JamieTronnes of the @CNAPS_ and our new board member @lisagable are going to great lengths to strengthen ties and ensure our interests are properly communicated in Washington. It was a real pleasure for Ret'd General Christopher Coates, @CChrustie @CalvinChrustie and I to share our perspectives on the state of public safety, defence and security in Canada. @DavePerryCGAI, @CdnChamberofCom David Pierce made excellent contributions as well. Ambassador @MarkDWiseman gave an impressive speech, listing the countless ways in which Canada supports American prosperity and vice-versa. Our two nations are intimately intertwined, have fought alongside each other in numerous conflicts for noble causes, and can boast the world's only binational military command in NORAD. We are more similar than we are different, and have a unique and irreplaceable relationship. The Federal government has done much to increase our defence spending and address border security concerns in a short period of time. More certainly needs to be done, but I think a positive message on our efforts to date was well-received. I especially liked what Ambassador Wiseman concluded with: "America first does not mean American alone". Let’s hope Prime Minister @MarkJCarney starts to sound more like his Ambassador in the months to come. @MLInstitute A sincere thanks to @AmmonSBlair and Josh Treviño for the invitation and hospitality.

Why do the occupiers assign special “threat categories” to abducted Ukrainian teenagers? The enemy is not only erasing the identity of orphaned children through propaganda, but also introducing total control at the highest level so that teachers and psychologists can detect and break even the slightest resistance to the russian system.

“Even if both of his arms and legs are in casts, you will still go there. Under escort.” That was the response the parents of 17-year-old Matvii received when they tried to protect their son from military training under russian occupation. Those words became the breaking point after three long years of surviving under constant pressure. Matvii’s family tried to stay “invisible”: avoiding attention, deleting their phones every day, while their son secretly continued studying in a Ukrainian online school. Matvii dreamed of entering a university in free Ukraine, but the occupation system had prepared a very different future for him. It began when the police came to their home, threatening to strip his parents of their parental rights and open a criminal case against them. Under this pressure, Matvii was forced into a russian school, where history classes were replaced with propaganda and teachers deliberately refused to teach the Ukrainian language. Then came forced military registration and an ultimatum: either Matvii attends a five-day military training camp at a closed base, or he would not receive his school certificate. What happened there could hardly be called “education.” It was full-scale military training for teenagers. The territory was fenced off. Wake-up call at 6:00 a.m. Phones confiscated. Constant shouting from instructors. Instead of books, Matvii was taught how to operate drones, dig trenches against the clock, crawl across fields carrying mock weapons, and storm buildings. Any mistake was punished with one hundred push-ups and a clip round the ear. There was no mercy even when children began suffering mass food poisoning from inedible meals. Two students were hospitalized, yet the training continued for everyone else. Ukrainian teenagers were being systematically turned into a “resource” for war against their own country. Thankfully, today that noose has finally been broken. Thanks to the efforts of the Save Ukraine team, Matvii and his parents are finally safe in free Ukraine. The humiliating interrogations at checkpoints and the constant fear of forced conscription are now behind them. “It’s better to serve here than flee abroad,” Matvii says. Today, he is recovering from everything he endured and finally beginning to make plans for his future. But thousands of Ukrainian children in the temporarily occupied territories remain trapped inside this machinery of militarization and fear. We continue fighting for every single one of them — to restore their right to freedom, safety, and a future. Join our rescue missions. Your support and sharing this story help us save children from the trap of occupation. giving.gofundme.com/campaign/58506…

Rubio’s latest role as Press Secretary was phenomenal today. He knocked question after question from a frenzied press corps out of the park. He gave a perfect answer when he was asked, “What is your hope for America at a time such as this?” Rubio responded: “My hope for America is what it’s always been… We want it to continue to be the place where anyone from anywhere can achieve anything. Where you’re not limited by the circumstances of your birth, by the color of your skin, by your ethnicity - but frankly it’s a place where you are able to overcome challenges and achieve your full potential… Our history is not one of perfection, but it’s still better than anybody else’s history. Ours is a story of perpetual improvement. Each generation has left the next generation of Americans freer, more prosperous, safer… As we come upon this 250 year anniversary, I think we have a lot to learn and be proud of in our history. It is one of perpetual and continuous improvement, where each generation has done its part to bring us closer to fulfilling the vision that the founders of this country had upon its founding.” I know that was spoken like a true politician, but it was damn good 🇺🇸

Capitalism has a moral basis. The reason being, unless you have economic freedom, you will have no other freedom at all. [...] To be free, you have to be capitalist. Every free society in the world is a capitalist society. Not every capitalist society is free, but a pre-condition for freedom is capitalism.

Today I met with Vanessa Frazier — the United Nations Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Children and Armed Conflict.  I am grateful to Vanessa for coming to Ukraine and seeing with her own eyes the reality in which Ukrainian children are living. It is especially important that she spoke with children whom we have managed to bring back. These are testimonies that cannot be ignored or distorted.  I informed Vanessa about the key issue: today, there is no official international mechanism for the return of Ukrainian children. Therefore, the only truly effective path remains our rescue missions, through which we have already brought home 1,276 children and teenagers. This is the majority of all children returned by Ukraine. And we will continue.  But this must not remain the only solution. According to the UN General Assembly resolution adopted at the end of last year, Ms. Frazier’s mandate includes facilitating the creation of an official mechanism for the return of Ukrainian children. We expect this mechanism to be established and to work toward the best possible outcome.  At the same time, we wish Vanessa success in achieving the main goal — the unconditional return of all Ukrainian l children. To make this possible, the international community must support every available tool for bringing children home, including our rescue missions, which are currently the only truly functioning mechanism and through which we have already rescued 1,276 children and teenagers from temporarily occupied territories and russia.

Come join us and stand up to Russia. Russia has been abducting Ukrainian children for years in order to “re-educate” them & graft them into Russian families (to whom they don’t belong). This is a war crime. Thursday, April 23 🕐 12-4 pm — installation on display; 1-2 pm — rally and press conference 📍National Mall (between 3rd & 4th Streets), Washington, DC.
Razom for Ukraine 🇺🇸🤝🇺🇦@razomforukraine

‼️On April 23, 20,000 stuffed teddy bears will take over the National Mall — each one representing a Ukrainian child abducted by Russia since the start of the full-scale invasion. The installation will include 20,000 teddy bears displayed on a vertical fence, and will be accompanied by a rally and press conference. 📅 Thursday, April 23 🕐 12-4 pm — installation on display; 1-2 pm — rally and press conference 📍National Mall (between 3rd & 4th Streets), Washington, DC. Show up! Help bring Ukrainian children home.

America went to war in Iran because Iran made itself a Chinese weapon. I explain in detail in my piece in @TheFP. America didn’t need to do this -- to invest so much political capital and military firepower -- just to shore up a second-run Israeli operation, nor is it reasonable to believe, as Secretary Rubio claimed, that it's all because of potential Iranian counter-strikes against US forces. Months of American buildup, America setting the timing and pulling the trigger on the operation, and the growing and increasingly dangerous strategic ties between Iran and China for America's ability to face down its chief adversary in the Pacific -- these are all evidence that this was an American decision, and that Israel is playing second fiddle this time around. There are now two wars underway in Iran, not one: The longstanding Israel-Iran war playing out on the regional chessboard, and the much larger US-China confrontation on the global chessboard. They overlap significantly in terms of the two nations' banks of targets in Iran -- but that overlap may not hold to the end. Two wars, not one. If you can only see one of them, you'll misunderstand what's happening now and what happens next. -- This Isn’t Israel’s War. It’s America’s. thefp.com/p/this-isnt-is…

It’s not all news and media… all the time… I recently snuck in some time with my fabulous dear friend. I needed a reminder of the incredible people I’m blessed to have around me. Lisa is a former ambassador, turnaround CEO, and best-selling author, but more than that, she’s a woman of wisdom, strength, and heart. I feel so grateful to have women in my life with whom I can share real conversations about life, goals, and ambitions. Together, we are better. 💛
