Russia is like the worst possible shape for a naval power. They have five different seas bordering them and in no case can any of them support each other. To have a naval presence they'd need five completely independent fleets (which they have). If I was designing a fantasy world, I wouldn't dare design a nation as ridiculous as this. We have great literature showing good old American made platelet poor and rich plasma injections speed up hamstring recovery and decrease repeat injury Not aware of anything in Europe that would make a literature proven difference

@Tim_NBA @RichStapless When zone improves your base defense that’s not a good sign

Great question! I'm seeing some of each. Looking at the last 5 games I see LA is 5th in DRtg. Looking deeper: Transition: ~same frequency as before but 15 DRtg points improved lately. LA's actually giving up better shots in transition but benefitting from big underperformance on opponent shot making. The FT rate in transition is also improved from ~avg on the year to ~2x as good as the best season-long mark over the last 5 games (clearly unsustainable). Half Court Defense: the man to man defense has been the ~same in effectiveness. What's shifted is LA's zone usage (from ~5% to ~25%), and even with LA's FT rate playing zone being its norm, the FT rates in zone in general are much lower than man, so we've seen the overall half court D's FT rate improve a lot. LA's actually given up easier shots in zone lately, but opponent shot making has dropped 0.24 PPS. They're shooting 27% on 3s (51% of shots vs LA's zone lately) vs 37% prior. LA's DReb % is a tiny tiny bit better as well (like <1%), w/LA playing bigger lineups lately. The zone they've used is sometimes more normal zone & other games is a bit muddled and they'll often swap from zone to man mid-clock, which is confusing. It's something that's smart to mix in but I don't see as sustainable. A top 5 DRtg isn't legit, but if they stick with zone usage I think the FT rate can improve and the man defense is so bad that we can probably see some legit improvement overall.

Have you noticed anything that has caused us to be in the top third in the league on defense as of late? Any special schemes? Or is it more luck-adjusted related things? @Tim_NBA

@SandyofCthulhu Sure, but that’s mostly freight. There’s little argument that regional passenger rail in the US could be greatly improved. The Northeast cities, Texas metro areas and Californian cities are all great examples of places where fast passenger rail would be a great improvement
