This evening, we inspected Old Portbell Road (Nakawa to Luzira, 6.5Km) to understand the Operational challenges delaying the Project. This project stands at 65% completion in 85% time allotment. We have instructed the contract to adopt methodologies which will enhance recovery without compromising the Quality. We particularly spelt out the need to uphold Environmental Safeguard requirements such as covering open drains, desilting storm drains and blocking Sewerage connections on the storm drains. We have provisions for free service ducts for Internet connectivity but we noted unsightly increased pole connections. We call upon @UCC_Official to help us enforce the Cabinet Directive of stopping this vice. @KCCAUG

I have just received a disturbing call from Rodgers, an Ugandan currently stranded in Russia. He spoke to me in tears. According to him, many Ugandans who traveled to Russia in search of better opportunities have instead found themselves forcibly deployed to the frontline in the Russia–Ukraine War. He says that about 50 of his fellow Ugandans have already lost their lives right before his eyes. Rodgers only managed to communicate because he was temporarily returned to Russia for treatment after falling ill on the frontline. He now fears that he will soon be sent back. What is even more concerning is that, despite repeated attempts to seek help from the Uganda Embassy in Moscow, he says no assistance has been provided. Meanwhile, he says that other countries, such as Kenya, have successfully repatriated their citizens through their embassies. He is crying out for help to the government of Uganda and whoever can intervene and save the lives of Ugandans in Russia. @adoniaayebare @Thomas_Tayebwa @Winnie_Byanyima

There's a physicist at Stanford named Safi Bahcall who modeled this exact principle and the math is wild. He calls it "phase transitions in human networks." When you're stationary, your probability of a lucky event is limited to your existing surface area: the people you already know, the places you already go, the ideas you've already been exposed to. Your opportunity window is fixed. When you move, your collision rate with new nodes in a network increases nonlinearly. Double your movement (new conversations, new cities, new projects) and your probability of a serendipitous encounter doesn't double. It roughly quadruples. Because each new node connects you to their entire network, not just to them. Richard Wiseman ran a 10-year study at the University of Hertfordshire tracking self-described "lucky" and "unlucky" people. The single biggest differentiator wasn't IQ, education, or family money. Lucky people scored significantly higher on one trait: openness to experience. They talked to strangers more, varied their routines more, and said yes to invitations at nearly twice the rate. The "unlucky" group followed the same routes, ate at the same restaurants, and talked to the same 5 people. Their networks were closed loops. No new inputs, no new collisions. Luck isn't random. Luck is surface area. And surface area is a function of movement. The lobster emoji is doing more work than most people realize. Lobsters grow by shedding their shell when it gets too tight. The growth requires a period of total vulnerability. No protection, no armor, soft body exposed to the ocean. That's the cost of movement nobody posts about. You have to be uncomfortable first. The new shell only hardens after you've already moved.

@feziledhlamini_ @InshallahSZN @IDCSouthAfrica As a founder, one shouldnt be reliant on Grants. In as much as you didnt get the grant funding you wanted, with the traction that youve made, you can attain VC funding. Theres lots of money in the world. If only you invested half of all that energy over the years to apply to VCs

In a firm where I once interned, we designed a house using rammed earth as the core design solution. We were so proud of it. It felt thoughtful, sustainable, contextual the kind of project you can’t wait to present. We presented to the client. They loved it. We left the meeting excited, already imagining the next phase. They said they’d send an email with further instructions and revisions. Then the email came. They said they loved the design… but wanted us to revise the color because it didn’t sit well with them. They mentioned they had shown it to their friends and the feedback was that it “looked like a mud house.”😂😭 Attached to the email were reference images of white Pinterest modern buildings. That was the moment I knew using local materials is hard to embrace and how people perceive it as inferior.
SHAV★@shavnyuy

If we used our local materials correctly, apartments would look this good. Brick architecture is so underrated… not because it can’t compete, but because people have been conditioned to see local materials as inferior.
