Some exciting news: I am thrilled to announce that I’ve joined @IndexVentures as a partner in their NYC office! The thing I love most about investing is the privilege to learn from, partner with, and support founders who are at the top of their field. I can’t think of a better place to do that than Index, working alongside an all-star team with incredible investors like @shardul_shah and @martinmignot whose founder-first mindset resonates with me deeply. I also want to express my immense gratitude to the team at @lightspeedvp for taking a chance on me and giving me the opportunity of a lifetime – especially @ravi_lsvp, @bsomaia, @ai and @ephrati_james. I learned so much from you all and would not be here without your support and mentorship. Let’s build! 🚀

Today, we are unveiling @hyperion__cap, an investment firm built to be the best strategy partner for deeptech founders. Again and again, we heard from these founders that venture capital has been failing them, even as more deeptech funds entered the market in recent years. Too many deeptech VCs lack a real command of industry history, hardware unit economics, go-to-market, and engineering nuance. Instead of rigorously evaluating complex frontier technologies, they often pass with vague references to “science risk." They overlook exceptional founders outside usual elite networks and concentrate capital based on pedigree, reducing their thinking to hand-wavy “founder bets." These VCs then prioritize promotion and social media over delivering real value to founders. In this world, LPs are also losing. And more of them continue to be disappointed by the lack of rigor that their deeptech GPs bring to evaluating these startups. We raised $35 million for Hyperion's Fund I to change this paradigm. On average, we complete 100+ pages of deep research and strategy ideas that are shared with our founders. We also share this industry research with our LP base, which has already helped support our founders with additional capital and valuable introductions. We hold regular strategy sessions with our founders and obtain key connections that unlock new growth vectors for their businesses. Over the last 6 months, we’ve already invested $9 million behind founders across 7 companies: @FarisSbahi at Normal Computing, @isaiah_p_taylor @ Valar Atomics, Will Wilson @AntithesisHQ , @drauwsy @ Kunin, @abeirami & @aparandehgheibi @ [stealth], Charlie Cheng @ TC Lab, and Mike & Josh @ F-ADA. I'm deeply grateful to the senior leadership at Vista Equity Partners for their support, to the venture GPs who have advised us, and to the founders who chose to partner with us in the earliest days. We’re especially grateful to our limited partners, who put their trust in us at the firm's inception. Lastly, to build this firm alongside one of my closest friends and college teammates @henr56520 been a true privilege. We’re looking forward to working relentlessly for the founders we've backed and for those we’ll have the chance to support in the years ahead. hyperioncap.co

I just left @xai It was not an easy decision. The past three months were an absolute blast - I've been in many trenches in my life and can say this was by far one of the most intense warzones. I love fighting. Especially being in the trenches with my friends, working on problems that will actually advance humanity. But the current environment wasn't serving my growth. And that's a really hard thing to admit - I've always looked up to Elon, and I genuinely believe xAI will win. I still do. One thing I'll say: don't stay somewhere just because of the name. If you're unhappy, and you know you can't grow 100x where you are - it's the right call to leave. What's next? Get some sleep back. Then find the next trench worth fighting in. I'll always be meeting exceptional people - that was never because of a recruiting title. I just love finding smart people and helping however I can. Many more side quests to come!!!

Six years ago, Assaf called me on my birthday and said "It's time to do it again." We said yes without hesitation. You back people, not plans. $32B later, @wiz_io is the clearest proof I've seen of that. Congrats to Ami, Roy, Yinon, and every Wizard who made this happen. 📷 indexventures.com/perspectives/w…

I think it’s pretty clear that simulation is the next frontier for AI. The most impressive feats of AI to date are when we have a clear environment + reward, whether it be beating Le Sedol at Go, winning an IMO gold medal, or writing entire apps from scratch. In these cases, the RL algorithm can try different actions, and observe the well-defined consequences in the safety of a docker container. But what about messy real-world situations involving people? The rewards are unclear, the stakes are high, and you can’t experiment in the real world. But these situations are precisely where the next big opportunity in AI is. To crack this, we need to *simulate* society (“put society into a docker container”). Concretely, this means building a model that can predict what will happen in any given situation (real or hypothetical). If we can do this, we are only limited by our imagination: predict the future, optimize for better outcomes, answer hypothetical (“what if”) questions. Ultimately, this goes beyond making better decisions, but it’s about giving us a better understanding of ourselves and the world. Simulation is the whole enchilada. And this is exactly the research that @simile_ai is working on. Read more here: simile.ai/blog/simulatio…

excited to coauthor this article with @amytam01. at Quadrillion we happen to think that research is the most important thing that we can do as people, and we want everyone to have that capability (1/2)

Our work on generative agents showed that it's possible to accurately simulate human behavior by capturing rich information about real people. @joon_s_pk spoke with @Nature about how our work builds on this research, and how enterprises can now use simulations to test decisions before they hit the real world: nature.com/articles/d4158…

Exciting to see @WSJ cover what we’re building at @simile_ai. It’s great to see the technology we developed in the lab making real world impact alongside foundational institutions like CVS and Gallup. Nothing like frontier research meeting real PMF! wsj.com/cio-journal/ca…

Incredible application of simulations for real-world, customer impact!
Simile@simile_ai

Simile is increasing decision-making capacity and decreasing research time. We are proud to work with partners like @CVSHealth! 🤝 Projects that took months are now taking hours, and studies are closer resembling human behavior than prior self-reported research - all with the goal of providing the best products and services for customers at companies like CVS Health, where the customer is centered in every decision.   Read more in the CVS Health whitepaper below.

I’ve recently joined @openai to work with @romainhuet on @OpenAIDevs Now is the year of dogged pursuits But Back in 2021 i thought my technical career was over. I had chronic hand pain in both my hands and could barely tie my shoes let alone use my phone or write code. I spent a few years not thinking about what it mean for the value of my labor to go zero but to not being able to produce any labor at all… I gave up bjj. Pottery. Tech. Etc. Then, that one company that solved dota and hide and seek released chatgpt and whisper and all of a sudden with dictation and some determination I could write essays, build things, and make a living from twitter meeting great people like @eugeneyalt @dmdohan @humford @GEVS94 for my reintegration into the tech world after so many years away. From Canada advised companies for free until I had to ask them to pay me. I charged companies until I figured out pricing and asked for enough that I became an investor as well. I started a consulting business and a course business. Learning alongside @HamelHusain and @vig_xyz But through that time I learned a lot about running a business and felt like I’d stopping learning about everything else. I realized that last summer that I wanted to wrap things up and go somewhere and just get involved and be at the center of it all.
