Years ago, I had proposed an essay along the lines of “What’s going on with anime?” that no writer wanted to take up. I can now see why. No one likes the answer.

@kwc1922 @BestMovieMom It absolutely does. We can enjoy these new movies while also admitting that in pursuit lower costs, the VFX across the industry had gotten much much worse

@ChezzyNeo @Kannas_Ricebowl Attack on Titan is meh. Nothing in it is really new or interesting in terms of dramatic beats. Art style is striking but when you've read literally genres and hundreds of Manga it just doesn't stand out as special. Too much debt trying too hard.

Despite being the most successful, action is actually the weakest genre of anime...
An average action anime tends to be a lot worse than an average anime belonging to any other genre, and even the peaks of the action genre can't touch the peaks of romance/drama/thriller etc.

I don’t think Sinners, or anything this year, will get the “Everything Everywhere backlash” because EEAAO has a type of humor and maximalist sensibilities that some people instinctively bounce off of. The “Millennialisms” are like shellfish allergy to some people.

Part of the problem with the OBAA discourse on here is that people will watch this scene and think it’s PTA writing what he thinks revolutionaries sound like as opposed to just trying to make the French 75 sound like how every Weather Underground knockoff talked.

The premise is embarrassingly thin, the characters are standard archetypes in jerseys, every opponent is humanized into a lovable underdog ASAP. Its sports for people who find sports too unpredictable
