I've rebuilt operations for 100+ agencies in the last 3 years. The pattern is always the same. Revenue grows. Chaos grows faster. You're stuck at $75k/mo wondering why you can't crack $200k+ It's not your sales. It's not your team. It's the 7 systems you don't have yet. 🧵

Wordsss turns two today. We refreshed our website with case studies and new branding. Some thoughtsss: It's never been more true that the best story wins. A small team with the right tools can now build a meaningful technology company, with all the bells and whistles: good enough, generic writing, functional design, and a passable brand. "Pretty good" became the default. To stand out, great companies have become more determined to establish a differentiated point of view with distinctive writing and memorable design. Many of the supposed truths I believed about this business were just stories that I made up. The world is fake and made-up — and (almost?) everyone is winging it. Learning that is terrifying, but liberating. "You can just do things" is only part of the story. The other part: very few people do. "The reward for good work is more work." —@kevin2kelly. No coffee meeting, outbound email, or networking event proved more fruitful for business growth than simply sharing our work. I've worked with dozens of founders and the variance in archetypes is seemingly infinite. There is an infectious magnetism (aura?) some have that is hard to articulate, impossible to replicate, and incredibly energizing. Find people that energize you and spend more time with them. I recognize that the goalposts have shifted, and I'm reminding myself to stop and appreciate how far we've come, while respecting that the floor and ceiling are both objectively higher. It is our moral obligation to be optimistic. And it is a very wise business decision. The world is going to change a lot — faster and more dramatically than ever before. It's going to be weird, but I believe it's going to be wonderful. Buckle up! I keep coming back to one @tyleralterman thought that perfectly encapsulates the greatest lesson of the @wordsssdotcom experiment: "Anyone who's become radically more capable of creating what they want to see in the world passionately launched into an ambitious public-facing project." This has been the most exciting and rewarding chapter of my career so far. I feel lucky and grateful to have made this well-timed bet. Your turn.

This is one of the coolest projects we've ever had the privilege of working on. Will and his team are among the rare few who embody the spirit of those explorers who first ventured into the great blue frontier. The ocean is calling.
will o’brien@Willob

THE OCEAN IS CALLING Since coming out of stealth one year ago, we haven’t shared many updates about @ulyssesinc. Our Communications & Public Relations Division profoundly apologizes for this. But today, we break our silence and make five major announcements: - MAKO: We are sharing details on Mako, our first autonomous underwater vehicle, the “Model T for the ocean”. - LEVIATHAN: We are announcing Leviathan, our first autonomous surface vehicle, a mothership for other drones and maritime domain awareness platform. - MAJOR WINS: We are announcing our major accomplishments in 2025 - new customers, lots of missions, and manufacturing and plans for 2026 and beyond. - NEW WEBSITE & BRAND: We are launching a new website and an updated brand. - RODEO: A gift for our friends in San Francisco. (Read to the end.) Please watch this video below & read on for more details.

This is wrong, but only because most people fundamentally misunderstand video as a medium and the purpose of a launch. If you want to capture someone's attention, you have to make them feel something. Delight, awe, fear, dread, humor, arousal... anything. If you want someone to give a shit, you have to make them feel before they think. Video is simply better at accomplishing this because of the information density of the medium. It uses an orchestra of visual elements, sound effects, music, and text that all work together to tell a story and elicit an emotion. It combines the visible, the audible, and the legible. - Audio has a higher information throughput rate than text. - Images and videos are often more memorable and emotionally influential than all other formats. Combine them all, and you have the ability to manufacture an emotional reaction within seconds. It's what makes video such a powerful medium when attempting to capture attention on social media. The common misconception is that a launch video is intended to accomplish everything at once—steal attention, inform the viewer, build trust, convert, and sell—all within 1-5 minutes. This is wrong. At its core, a launch video is simply an overproduced hook statement. Its purpose is to draw a viewer in for long enough (30 seconds instead of 2-3 seconds) that they accomplish two things without realizing it: 1.) They learn enough about your company, your product, or your idea to be able to articulate it to another person. 2.) They become emotionally invested in the problem you're solving or your company's mission. After watching the video, your viewer has a small amount of contextual information and a feeling. At that point, you create an opportunity to make the "ask". - Check out our website - Download this whitepaper - Try our demo - DM me - Read this blog post The "ask" doesn't matter. What's important is that, in just 90 seconds, you've created a sense of familiarity powerful enough to ask for more of the viewer's time or attention. Unfortunately, a 1,200-word blog post with a retro-futurist thumbnail image about the future of AI isn't going to accomplish the same thing. And that's ok.
Lee Robinson@leerob

The launch video hype cycle is almost completely over 2026 is when the blog post returns. Words are so back

🚨 Anthropic just dropped something that makes $10K automation consultants look like clowns. It's called "Skills" and it's basically how Claude becomes a specialist in YOUR exact workflow without re-prompting every damn time. Not another "AI update" - this is the actual framework companies like Box, Notion, and Rakuten are using to: → Cut day-long reports to 1 hour (8× faster) → Apply brand standards automatically to every file → Build agents that remember your procedures forever The kicker? It's 100% FREE if you already have Claude Pro/Team/Enterprise. While everyone's paying n8n consultants $15K for basic automations, Claude just learned to do specialised work through simple Markdown files. A finance team can go from spending 8 hours on reports to finishing in 1 hour. Same day. Zero retraining. This is the "custom instructions" killer nobody saw coming. Comment "SKILLS" and I'll send you the setup guide + best custom skills to replace your overpriced consultants.

Perplexity just quietly dropped a 42-page internal guide on how they actually use AI at work. What I found most useful: → How they automate the small stuff. Email, meeting prep, research (all done by AI) → Using AI to amplify your curiosity, not replace it. → Their prompting playbook is simple, practical, and genuinely good. Comment “AI” and I’ll send it to you for free.

I’m hiring for two major roles on my team at Ulysses. There has not been a better time to join Ulysses. In the last few months, revenue & pipeline have gone vertical, and we've made significant technological breakthroughs that will forever change how subsea work is done. It's been the most successful period in our company's history, and we are just getting started. We will be announcing some of these breakthroughs soon. Stay tuned. The jobs: 1. GM, Commercial: Your job is to stand up and lead our commercial business unit. Take our early contracts and scale them to build a machine that reshapes how critical telecoms and energy infrastructure is inspected and repaired. 2. Director of Marketing and Brand. Your job is to make Ulysses impossible to ignore. World-build. Make Ulysses "the Ocean Company". Take the air out of the room. High taste. No slop. Tell the world what Ulysses does. Quit your boring desk job. The ocean is calling. Full job descriptions are @ ulysses.inc/jobs
