Phagwa celebrates the victory of good over evil and the spirit of renewal, joy, and friendship. Celebration of 150 years of Vande Mataram- National Song of India 🇮🇳 :   @hcikingston organised a vibrant Indian cultural evening -“Spirit of Vande Mataram” at Indian House on 18 January as part of a year-long celebration during November 2025-26. ✏️Symbolising a Patriotic and Spiritual Ode to Mother India! 🇮🇳 High Commisioner @mayajoshi and Spouse Madam Isha Joshi inaugurated the event with lighting of lamp. Indian community members sang “Vande Mataram”, followed by enthralling dance, music and singing performances.

Hon’ble PM Narendra Modi, has called  Indian diaspora as  “Rashtradoots (brand Ambassadors)” of India, highlighting that they carry India’s values, culture, and achievements abroad. High Commissioner @mayajoshi in his address to the Indian community highlighting the significance of National Song Vande Mataram reflecting the spirit of India, the vital role of the Indian diaspora abroad, and their contribution as a bridge between India and partner countries. The event was organised with support of Indian community members in Jamaica .

High Commissioner @mayajoshi presents his Letter of Appointment as Non-Resident Consul General of India to Honourable Daniel Pruce, @DanielPruce, Governor of the British Virgin Islands @bvigovoff on 15 January 2026. During the courtesy-call he also had productive discussions on deepening India–BVI engagement, including on a shared focus on the growing diaspora, digital cooperation, humanitarian and disaster response, trade, cultural exchanges, and tourism. Glimpses of visit to British Virgin Islands: ➖ 🇮🇳 High Commisioner @mayajoshi called on Honourable Natalio D. Wheatley, Premier and held fruitful discussion with him and Hon. Lorna G. Smith, Junior Minister of Financial Services, Labour and Trade. 🇻🇬 ▪️They exchanged views on exploring opportunities and synergies between India as the fourth largest economy and BVI as one of the leading offshore financial sector. 🔹Discussed potential cooperation in digital public infrastructure, capacity building-ITEC training programmes, the financial sector, disaster risk reduction. ✔️HC @mayajoshi also briefed on reforms in Indian economy, ease of doing business and financial ecosystem, including on GIFT City.

Rashtriya Raksha University (RRU), through the participation of Prof. (Dr.) Bimal Patel, Member, International Law Commission and Vice-Chancellor, RRU, contributed to the United Nations Security Council Arria-Formula meeting on “Global Maritime Safety and Security through the Protection of Seafarers.” RRU’s School of Integrated Coastal and Maritime Security Studies (SICMSS) extends deep appreciation to the leadership of Greece, India, and the Philippines for convening this timely dialogue, in partnership with Denmark, Japan, Panama, and Romania. The University reiterates Prof. Patel’s call for the International Association of Maritime Universities to advance women’s empowerment in the maritime security profession through education, research, and training. Prof. Patel emphasised that with UNCLOS as the “constitution for the oceans,” seafarers are its first citizens and guardians, from a cadet of a landlocked State to a captain from an island nation, their equal safety defines whether the international legal order is truly upheld. Addressing the Council, he appealed for the protection of all seafarers navigating contested and climate-disrupted waters, irrespective of flag, gender, or national geography, coastal, archipelagic, island, or landlocked, developing or developed.
