@movito One manifesto I have been meaning to write: since “interaction design” has shrunk to a narrow meaning, there is an analogy to be made — INTERACTION ARCHITECTURE : interaction design :: information architecture :: information design

What would you call "UX design" if you had to give it a name that tried to describe what the job was about? A. User journey producer for self-service B. Product development coach C. Stakeholder requirements balancer D. Conversion optimization specialist E. Something else?
Fredrik Matheson@movito

UX purports to empower users, to remove barriers that badly-made systems impose. Why, then, is expertise on perception and human performance, on activity systems, etc, barely a topic in UX? Where did the ideas of augmenting human capabilities through technology disappear to?

@movito Maybe I’m missing the point of the hypothetical, but wouldn’t Software Designer (if not already taken) cut to the chase? All these are just activities towards making better software.

@movito Have you actually fixed this? I tried to remap the Figma shortcuts on my Norwegian keyboard to work like Adobe shortcuts, and still what should be “bring to front” becomes “switch to next tab”. Infuriating

US-based product designers: Have you ever seen a non-US keyboard? My keyboard doesn't have buttons with [ and ] so I can't use these shortcuts. A quick fix: let users customize keyboard shortcuts A better solution: provide shortcut sets that work on different keyboard types

@movito SSO for Norway is amazing. I think the alternative arrangement we have in the US, where every service being separate is a feature, not a bug, does much more damage to people’s access to services.

It’s very difficult to get much done in Norway without a BankID (digital identity / authentication / signatures). Previously, identification was merely perquisite to purpose. Now, things are shifting towards a centralized identity for everything. This is hardly debated here.

I really like hiring designers from agencies / consultancies because they often have fantastic facilitation, presentation, and persuasion skills due to their interactions with clients 😌 These are really important skills on "in house" teams as well!

It’s hard not to be skeptical anytime the government talks about what they’re going to do, but reading a press release that mentions CX, accountability for user experience, and framing it all as key moments in the customer lifecycle is truly exciting

Today, @POTUS signed an Executive Order to improve the delivery of government services – from filing taxes to renewing a passport. Read more: whitehouse.gov/briefing-room/…

@andybudd More power to them. Teaching others helps you reflect on your own skills and how to communicate your process. Plus what’s a better way for young designers to learn growth design than by growing an actual business?

I’m slightly amazed by the sheer number of designer there are who 2-3 years into their careers, have their own YouTube channels, and are offering paid mentorship advice.

@nadise If I really liked the company and thought they were going places, yes. but I pay more attention to the description than the title. Is the actual work they want you to do too junior? IMO titles often reflect company maturity, not role responsibility.

When a recruiter reaches out with an "opportunity" at a lower level (at least in JD title) than you're already at, do you assume there's wiggle room in the level? Do you dismiss the conversation out of hand? What do you do/think? I'm curious if responses fall down gender lines...

I wrote up the principles for rigging the UX team at Oda as we grew from 5 to 25 during Corona. I wouldn’t say we are doing anything earth shattering radical, just designing our org with the same purpose as we do the product link.medium.com/V4KUnheQzjb

@movito @bensauer I feel this. The snag is that it’s leadership, not the hands-on folk, who are the sporadic users, joining a workshop now and then. and then the pricing calculation is closer to “when they need it, it better fucking work”

A huge subscriber headache with Figma, Miro, etc is that there's no price differentiation between "casual user" and "everyday user". So you're either overpaying, or keeping people out to keep costs down – which creates friction as well.

Are their any “famous” women in UX? The level of Don Norman, Luke W, Alan Cooper, and Jared Spool? Where you say their names to other UXers and they know who you’re talking about?

@admsch I remind myself regularly that the US is not a 60 x times larger version of this place, but instead a plethora of different places, smaller to larger, alike and different, inscrutable to outsiders. But it *looks* like a modern place from afar, so I forget now and then.

I use the same login system review my taxes, access my bank account, sign contracts, OK filings on my kids’ names, start a company, etc. Settling a relative’s estate is still done on paper, which is very cumbersome. Thankfully, it’s being worked on now.

🇳🇴 votes are weighted according to population density: "The number of members to be returned from each constituency depends on the population and area of the county. Each inhabitant counts one point, while each square kilometre counts 1.8 points." Always astonishing.
