@CuriousBunnie12 SIDS dominantly happens only with the mother…. Never in public…. And never with a father. It’s just moms having mental breaks and killing their kids.

no one who shouts this “fact” can explain why the back to sleep campaign reduced SIDS rates
Truth Reigns Supreme@awkeNotWoke

@CuriousBunnie12 SIDS is a lie - healthy babies do not die for unknown reasons. Babies only die in their sleep after their vaccines.

@TismTimeGG @MAngelechio @Kadotttt This is not the case basically anywhere in Canada. Rent is like half of what a mortgage payment would be in major cities, and they're at best roughly equivalent when you look elsewhere. Mortgages haven't been cheaper in years.

We need a new law stating that if you can pay $2,000 a month for rent banks must acknowledge the fact you can afford to pay a $1,400 mortgage

@echolanistan @Qagggy I don't have rigorous data, but anecdotally about half of the bikes I see on the streets are e-bikes. You don't need to be fit to bike up a steep grade if you have a motor helping you. I bike to my house at the top of Queen Anne all the time thanks to that electric assist.

@Qagggy Some bike lanes are great. Others, not so much. The ones on Columbian Way/ S Alaska Street are never in use because they travel along a very steep hill. No one ever uses them. If the grade were flatter, I’d be all for it, but it’s way too steep for all but the fittest people.

@clarkycogitates @YIMBYLAND Ehhh, the "happy ending" involves the steam shovel settling down to become a furnace and never building anything ever again. Her other book "The Little House" has much stronger NIMBY vibes.

@YIMBYLAND Was reading this to my 2yo recently and realized it’s arguably one of the very few children’s books that leans YIMBY. A vast majority of them focus on saving various snail darters from the greedy evil developers.

@mezentius_II @Cary_Bleasdale @StatisticUrban @fuckyouiquit My mom paid for her college tuition herself working as a camp counselor in the summer. In three months, making minimum wage, she was able to save up enough money to pay for tuition, books, and housing through her school year.

@ParkerFoxtrot @Cary_Bleasdale @StatisticUrban @fuckyouiquit What percent of parents do you think paid for their kids' college tuition in the 1960s? It's nice that you intend to do that, I do too, but that's clearly a matter of expectations rising faster than incomes, not an example of parents actually being poorer.

@Cary_Bleasdale @StatisticUrban @fuckyouiquit If you feel as I do that in order to be a responsible parent, you should be able to pay for your child’s college tuition, then you have must account for the fact that college tuition has risen 1500% since the 1960s. 300% when adjusted for inflation.

@JoeDotAverage @alyssaleann @SolArdenti "he loses all sense of time and is liable to spend way more time gaming than *he says* he wants to" It's not (just) that it doesn't benefit her, it's that it doesn't seem to benefit *him* either.

@alyssaleann @SolArdenti This isn’t an accusation just a question, I like your open exploration in public. But do all your husbands other hobbies benefit you in some way? Even if it’s really small? In my house it’s my wife who can’t stop gaming btw.

I haven’t seen anyone with my take, so at great personal risk, I’m wading in: - I have this ick - I have played & enjoyed video games in the past - I adore my husband, he’s the best - I’m a lib I want him to have fun and relax, but playing video games is a massive ick, (and I struggle with this!) I think it’s because it’s a total waste of time, and it means he’s not doing something else I *know* he wants to be doing: the workshop sitting unused, the language learning app he bought a lifetime membership to, the books he wants to read, the walls he wants to climb, etc. If he’s playing with friends, they don’t talk about anything other than the game (he says he doesn’t view it as bonding; it’s just like… a thing to do). If he’s playing by himself, he loses all sense of time and is liable to spend way more time gaming than *he says* he wants to. And that lack of control is a big turn-off for me With almost any other leisure activity, there’s some upside, and when he does those things I think it’s extremely hot. When he plays video games, it’s ick. Not permanently. Just until he does something hot again The only notable exception is that he brings his Switch when we travel. My libido/brain feels entirely neutral about that, presumably because you can’t really waste time on an airplane (?) [If you’re tempted to make big pronouncements about our marriage, please search my tweets for “my husband” before replying]
Not a Good Jewish Girl✡️@estherzelda0514

This is one of the common female icks I don't completely understand. Like, what is going on here? Do the women who have this opinion hate playing video games themselves? Have they tried them or not? Are we talking about a guy that occasionally plays Stardew when he has free time

Drivers in Seattle gotta come to understand driving a car in Seattle will literally never be less of a pain than it is right now. It will only get worse for the rest of your time in this city and on Earth. The ability to move throughout the city will improve. But not in a car.
