@searls @noelrap @caleb_hearth @onghu @godfoca @kgrz @DPritchett @dcarral @GaryBunofsky @mdfrenchman @cabgfx @_baltazore @Faraaz98 @crisrenella Great article, Justin! One thing I noticed is that you mention you try to practice CQRS but then immediately reach for find_or_create_by. I'm curious if you have a nuanced opinion about when to break CQRS?

@mattwensing @smysore @usesummit A stock options vs RSUs calculator would be interesting in my current life. 🤓
It could likely be useful for founders considering incentive pay for employees too.
English

@mherold @smysore @usesummit Thx for the validation.
Lmk what else you think we should build (even if they are simple). :)

Today's new free calculator: "A simple, powerful FIRE calculator". Special thanks to @smysore for testing an early version and providing feedback on what she wished existed.
Two modes, @usesummit handles all of the timing and math.

@mattwensing @smysore @usesummit I'm a numbers nerd so take this with 🧂 but seeing a percent chance that you run out of money would be more valuable than seeing "you need to save to X."
Confidence bands would be 👍👍.

@nateberkopec Did you work with Gusto? Because I enjoyed this post on their engineering blog about them doing just that. engineering.gusto.com/scaling-sideki…

I released v0.5.0 of the KSUID Ruby gem today! The ActiveRecord integration should be much more stable now. Next release, it will split into its own gem. github.com/michaelherold/…

Hey @mijustin, have you heard of the Spring '83 protocol by @robinsloan? I think you'll dig the idea and its harkening to the early Internet!

@dblockdotorg @_byroot Hash#deep_fetch is what naturally came to mind for me. But that's a little weird when also applied to Array.
English

How would you call a method that works like Hash#dig, but raises an error when a key is missing? The feature is acceptable, but blocked until we find a good name bugs.ruby-lang.org/issues/14602

.@lmillernpr bees are now fish in California and I felt you needed to know. I loved "Why Fish Don't Exist" and the story of the ontological windmill you tilt at.

The former is a database meant for building an event sourcing system. The latter is something from @arkency for building an event sourcing system using ActiveRecord as the store.
English

.@christoomey on @_bikeshed 339, it sounds like you're talking about event sourcing when it comes to "turning the database inside out." Have you seen eventstore.com/eventstoredb or railseventstore.org?

I just paired on @tuple with a colleague who is ~5k miles away and it was just as good as pairing with someone in my city. I'm so impressed right now!

@amrucker This speaks to me! It's amazing how a new environment forces you to grow and realize that you may have been *too* comfortable.
