@trevorshowvan @TableBoston None of this is how I understand insurance to work. Insurance PAYS FOR your lost expenses, it doesn't cancel vendor's fees. I'm confused how all of this happened this way.

@MarcoLowe It's not about speed, it's about control. With gas, you can lower the heat immediately. With electric, if you turn it down, the coil will cool... eventually. But then it will get too hot intermittently as it cycles on and off.

@MattForVA Roads, etc are paid for by gas taxes. She's paying her fairer share of taxes for the use of the roads.

Just went to DMV to renew my plates. I renewed my daughter’s as well, but her plates were almost double. I asked why, and the lady said, “because her car is considered fuel efficient.” I said, “the tags cost more because the car burns less gas?” She said, “yes. Since other vehicle owners have to pay more for gas, you have to pay more for tags so it’s fair.” So, the government is trying to get rid of gas cars by 2035 because they’re bad for the environment. But, I buy a fuel efficient car that’s better for the environment, and I’m penalized for doing so? More evidence the government does nothing because it’s better for you or the environment. Everything they do is a money & power grab.

Sometime around new years 2018 or so I started noticing people posting about how the previous year was a terrible year. Since then, on each new year, I haven’t seen one person say the previous year was actually pretty good. I have my theories, but why do you think that is?

@howieeddings @MenInBlazers Shouldn't give them excessive travel itinerary. And, Bro, if I'm gonna try to see the MNT in a WC on home soil, the cross-country plane ticket won't be what stops me.

The closest to living in a small town I ever came was in NYC. Small, frequent trips meant I knew my bagel guy, coffee lady, food cart guy and several restaurateurs. Friends, family and our life were all in easy walking distance. Cities foster connections.
Heritage: Why?@heritage_why

This idea that tall buildings are isolating is completely backward. In grad school I lived on the 20th floor of this building. Taller buildings = more people in a small area. Walk a few blocks to see most of your friends. We met at cafes/bars every day. smh.com.au/national/nsw/s…

@exurbanist @runningmatters_ @Boenau @BalderdashianLA Mom brain is used *by* moms to explain their mentality and state of mind. It's not used to refer to Moms by other people. If you said to a mom, "wow seems like you have mom brain," you think that would be taken well? Obviously not

North Atlantic sea surface temperatures hit a record daily high on March 6, 2023. 325 consecutive days of record temperatures later, the North Atlantic is still setting daily records. It's f&%king insanity that the collapse of the planet is not the lead story every day.

@WillFlyforFood @LauraGMitchell I'm curious what jurisdiction this is and if it's actually true. Sidewalks are usually placed within the right-of-way and I've never heard of property lines that are defined as extending into the right-of-way where a driveway connects.

@LauraGMitchell Not sure how your driveways work there, but here, our driveways transects sidewalks, you still own the driveway, the sidewalk essentially ends at every driveway and continues after it.. from an ownership perspective.

If it fits, I sits… If your pickup truck is too big to fit in the driveway, just claim the public sidewalk as your VIP driveway extension.

Well, Amazon, I think it's safe to say I'm never going to get my money back for these items. Can't seem to be able to reach a live human, and after nearly two months, I'm giving up. Thanks for stealing that hundred bucks from me. Really appreciate it.

@mateosfo @KrampusSnail As opposed to what? Paying cash? Many car loans are low enough interest that inflation/investment can easily outpace the interest. The real question is whether a new car is worth it to begin with.

@KrampusSnail How can someone take out a loan for the largest non-house purchase of their lives and fail to consider how the loan actually works? The concept of exposing yourself to this kind of crushing financial loss is completely foreign to me. I've never been flush enough to risk it.

I've never understood how people take out car loans knowing that amount they owe will exceed resale value of car within ~ 18 months. I think this is result of a) US driving mandates leave people no choice, and b) car culture requires financial illiteracy. bloomberg.com/news/newslette…

@BobFromAccounts Except we're now the stores. Literally where the chain stores food. In my basement after shopping at Costco or ordering online. They've outsourced storage to me so now I can't walk/ride anymore in this paradigm. Sadly, doesn't make sense for me to go back.
