@AuditeInsulae And by “fruitful tension” they mean lived experience trumps the Ten Commandments every time, but we still give God a participation trophy and tell Him “maybe next time.”

“ Much of Cardinal Eijk’s criticism focused not only on sexuality but on the report’s wider theological method. The study group rejected what it described as the “abstractly proclaiming and deductively applying principles that are set out in an immutable and rigid manner”, instead advocating what it termed a “fruitful tension” between doctrine and lived experience.” advaticanum.com/article/cardin…

@matthew_sede So why not just give the mandate? How about the Vatican answer that question? And while they’re at it, why not answer the Amoris Laetitia dubia? Aren’t we supposed to be listening and dialoging?

DO YOU BELIEVE IN THE REAL PRESENCE? Recent studies show that only 64% to 69% believe in the Real Presence. This is a desperate situation!! The Son of God is truly present on the altar! The Saints spoke about the Mass with awe & even holy fear because they understood what was truly happening. St. Francis of Assisi said: “Man should tremble, the world should quake, all Heaven should be deeply moved when the Son of God appears on the altar in the hands of the priest.” If Heaven itself is moved by what happens at the altar, we certainly should be too. If you have doubts about the Real Presence, pray “An Act of Faith.” O my God, I firmly believe that you are one God in three divine Persons, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. I believe that your divine Son became man and died for our sins and that he will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe these and all the truths which the Holy Catholic Church teaches because you have revealed them who are eternal truth and wisdom, who can neither deceive nor be deceived. In this faith I intend to live and die. Amen.

Pope Leo XIV
Pope Leo XIV@Pontifex·
From today until next Sunday, Laudato Si’ Week is taking place, dedicated to the care of creation and inspired by Pope Francis’ Encyclical. In this jubilee year of Saint Francis of Assisi, we recall his message of peace with God, with our brothers and sisters, and with all creatures. Sadly, in recent years, due to wars, progress in this direction has been greatly impeded. Therefore, I encourage the members of the Laudato Si’ Movement and all who promote an integral ecology to renew their commitment. Indeed, caring for peace is caring for life!

“the SSPX is explicitly developing an ecclesiology of substitution that is foreign to Catholic Tradition. It considers itself to have received the mission — without specifying from what authority — of supplying for the alleged failures of the Church itself. Recognition of the Pope is now merely theoretical, since real authority is in practice transferred to the Society's parallel "jurisdiction," which decides for itself where authentic Tradition resides and when obedience to the Holy See may be suspended.” rorate-caeli.blogspot.com/2026/05/fr-alb…

@AuditeInsulae I’ve seen nothing from Pope Leo XIV other than bias and prejudice typical of a boomer religious priest with a white savior complex. I hope he proves me wrong. I really do.

“There are many ways in which Traditionis Custodes could be neutralised, not all of which require a humiliating public renunciation of Pope Francis’s thinking. One indication of a change in the way the law is being applied was given when Britain’s papal nuncio told the bishops of England and Wales that permissions would be granted for the celebration of the Traditional Mass in parish churches. This would be enough to relieve many local frustrations and conflicts, but it would not be enough to rebuild trust with the SSPX. If Pope Leo wants to begin doing that, something more public and dramatic will be required. Now that a full year has passed since his election, we may see some bolder moves from the Holy Father, such as changes of personnel: for example, the Prefect of the Dicastery for Divine Worship, Cardinal Arthur Roche, has so far been kept in post despite being past retirement age. On the SSPX, it would be surprising if any pope watched a group move into schism with indifference: we will see whether Pope Leo finds his inner John Paul II.” — @LMSChairman advaticanum.com/article/pope-l…

What if a Novus Ordo bishop consecrates four bishops w/o papal mandate so that the NO faithful around the world might have more reverent NO masses out of a "state of necessity"... Is the SSPX fine with that, or is it a case of a "state of necessity for me, but not for thee?"

@JeffCassman @CatholicSmark Speaking as a JPII kid, his personality was electric and charismatic. There was also a relief when Paul VI died and a Pope with a sense of authority returned. (Not unlike the response for Leo after Francis fatigue.) So understandable why he remains venerable despite his failings.

Maybe the "world changing" papacy of JPII wasn't that world changing. Arguing "it was the council" is an interesting debate, but popes since then have had chances to fix it and have decided not to, been ineffecitve, or made it worse.
Rod Dreher@roddreher

That Catholic line is horrific. Trads will blame Vatican II, but there's no way to test that hypothesis. But if not the Council, then what? Asking seriously. Notice that neither the world-changing papacy of JP2 nor the horror of the abuse scandals affected the trajectory.

@kennedyhall @S_OReilly_USA @S_OReilly_USA throws out Donatism by analogy without actually confronting the unique aspects of the heresy that have never been duplicated. Unfortunate, this SSPX response is reminiscent of the Novatianist and or Donatist heresies. Certainly, all the things outlined (e.g., the blessing, Fiducia Supplicans, Pachamama) are terrible things. But even an unworthy pope's excommunications can be valid nonetheless

Arcivescovo Carlo Maria Viganò
Father Davide Pagliarani, Superior General of the Priestly Society of Saint Pius X, presented today to Leo XIV a Declaration of Catholic Faith, to which—as Successor of the Apostles in full communion with the Roman Catholic Apostolic Church—I fully adhere. Leo must now exercise the Petrine Ministry and confirm his brethren in the faith, in accordance with the command of Our Lord: “And you, when you have turned again, confirm your brethren” (Lk 22:32). If the faith professed by the Superiors of the Society of Saint Pius X is not the Catholic Faith, let him indicate wherein it is erroneous. If it is, let him condemn the errors that oppose it. If Leo were to fail to speak out when his authority is called upon as the supreme voice of the Church’s Magisterium in matters of Faith and Morals, Leo would be failing in his office. sspx.org/en/news/declar…
