The view from NCDOT. Ultimately NCDOT does whatever CRTPO tells them to. You want the project dead? It’s dead. But, the region is rejecting $700 million and starting over. Any new project has to go through the whole process again. It may be 10 years before a new project is even considered. The $700 million will go to other communities and projects. All while traffic on I-77 gets worse. 160,000 vehicles use 77 a day and this part of 77 has a crash rate 2.5x higher than the statewide average, per DOT

I agree with Sen. Ted Cruz. The FCC decision to fast-track approval of the Nexstar/Tegna merger bypassed its full commission, which was a move clearly designed to get ahead of our lawsuit, not to serve the public interest. As chair of the Commerce Committee, I’m asking Sen. Cruz to use his oversight authority over FCC to challenge this decision.

This merger will impact the whole country, but will especially be felt in North Carolina. Higher prices for TV, fewer local newsrooms, more centralized control over the news people see - these will be the results if this merger goes through.
