@JewTLA @SEIU I’m also interested. I’m sure glad @SEIU500 cares about the American hostages. I challenge their leaders to visit the #holocaustmuseum with me to see what happens when the world turns a blind eye.

@SEIU Maybe you THINK all these unions “sent a letter,” but our research indicates that #NEA did NOT. Will revise this statement if evidence surfaces to the contrary.

SEIU and a coalition of unions representing millions of workers sent a letter to the White House urging them to demand a cease-fire in Gaza and to put an end to U.S. military aid to Israel. Cutting aid is crucial for a peaceful resolution!

@FitzgeraldMofor @terpman878 @SmPotatoes No public money should be going to private or parochial schools. The top requirement for any discussion is that they should do everything the public schools also have to do

@HammerMoco Having been in union leadership for many years that is categorically false. Teacher leaders sit on interview panels, debate, discuss, review, and ultimately the elected representatives vote on the endorsement. Stop posting false information.

Upcoming Montgomery County Voting - Board of Education. I want to begin by thanking every single person running this year. It takes a lot of commitment in terms of time and energy to do what you’re doing, and this citizen appreciates it. In previous years, when life was much busier, I’d show up at the voting booth and when asked to place a vote for candidates I know nothing about, I would abstain from voting in that race. My hope was that others who had taken the time to do their research would collectively get it right. Now my suspicion is that when many who also have busy lives show up at the voting booth are handed a sheet of paper summarizing the teacher’s union endorsements, that captures their vote. Their logic is understandable: The unions represent the teachers who are charged with educating our children. The teachers would know what’s best for the children. Therefore, what’s on the union’s endorsement sheet has got to be what’s best, right? Having been a proud union member myself for many years I can say this is categorically false. A vote for the candidates endorsed by the union is a vote for what serves the interests of the union’s leadership, and that’s it. So unless you know that individual well, that endorsement should mean absolutely nothing to you. As you make your choice, be weary of any source that does not represent all candidates equally. For the first time in my life, I’ve had time to do my own research, listened remotely to many forums, and have identified those candidates who I believe would best serve the interests of the children (and know which three I would like to represent me). It is clear to me that other candidates are too committed to special interest groups who help them get elected, and those commitments will inevitably influence their actions as board members, too often at the expense of our children. Most objective citizens feel Montgomery County is in decline. Let’s do our best as voters to reverse the trend. #MoCo #MDpolitics #MCPS @MoCoCouncilMD @MoCo360Media @MCPS @mocoboe @SEIULocal500 @mceanea

David Trone has spent nearly $50 million trying to buy this seat and now he's using his millions to attack me. He knows what we know: we have the momentum and with your help, we're going to win this race. Chip in: secure.actblue.com/donate/bs_tw_a…

@Dawn_LCPC This post just shows how much you don’t understand the process. The endorsement process is open to ALL members to participate and ALL members can have candidate responses. those members should be communicating with their reps who cast the vote for or against the endorsement

This is💯true. When I ran, I spoke to many teachers who told me the same thing-“We have no input into who gets the apple ballot endorsement” & many admitted they just🗳️those candidates bc they assume they’re the best. My talking to them opened their👀 to doing their own research.

I was a member of MCEA and served as a building representative for 6 years while teaching HS Social Studies at @GaithersburgHS. I’m well aware that @mceanea is composed of teachers. During my time as a building rep, we were never handed a survey to select who we preferred to represent us on the @mocoboe. To this day, that continues to happen.

When @mceanea says they’d like to fully fund our schools, are they also acknowledging the rot present in #MCPS’ Central Office that diverts funding from students and teachers to “corruption, cronyism and contracts”? Or are they pretending that MCPS is a benign institution that’s not had to pay millions in legal fees due to the opt-out policy, the Beidleman debacle, or Ms. McKnight’s departure? I’m guessing a powerful organization such as @mceanea cannot be this tone deaf to families’ concerns about the dismal state of education due, in part, to a *mismanagement* of funds and policies that are hurting our children. I’m gonna need detailed analysis conducted by @mceanea just like the one @MCTaxpayers completed in order to respect their position. Otherwise, any criticism from MCEA of MCPS’ budget is vacuous and irresponsible at best. Fact of the matter is, the lack of transparency and accountability regarding public taxpayer money within MCPS is at such a *critical* stage that we must demand the creation of an *Office of Inspector General.* I’m asking MCEA to support this cause first. I’m confident they know better and will do better. #DiazForBOE DiazForBOE.com
