@48hghtchrdnck @glompix @bgcts They lie. If they were blindfolded in a room with an anonymous vote, and told they can hold up a red card or a blue card. Red card means you live, blue card means you die if less than 50% raise a blue card, every single one of these sanctimonious cucks is holding up a red card.

Sauron was defeated precisely because he couldn’t fathom anyone picking blue. Who would be stupid enough? Frodo and Company toppled a dark lord not through might of arms, but through commitment to Virtue. Subverting the empire for the kingdom
orthodoxmason@orthodoxmason

@IntractableLion Game theorists often conflate a self-interested rationality choice as the right choice. Once the right choice is defined as a form of “payoff” and you think in terms of maximization, you lose the ability to think in terms honor and fidelity. Virtue doesn’t live in a calculus.

Istanbul’s busiest airport (IST) has 5 operational runways and a 6th is under construction. It handled 85M passengers in 2025. In that same year, Dubai (DXB), Abu Dhabi (AUH), and Doha (DOH) had a combined total of 192M passengers. Plans are under way to increase IST’s share of the transit air traffic in the region. Like the tax exemption for wealthy foreigners, the broader goal is to restore Istanbul as the Eastern Mediterranean’s leading commercial and financial hub — a status it held for 1,500 years, first under Roman and Byzantine rule, then under the Ottomans.

What do you mean by “on the job” ? If MPs have to be in Parliament until late at night, which they often do three days a week, for months at a time, and while they wait they go out to the dedicated socialising areas of the Parliamentary estate, the terrace and bars, to buy a pint for their staff members, or talk to journalists, or other colleagues, you consider that on the job presumably, but I fail to see how it is different from any other working person going to the pub with colleagues after work. I am very sad that a lot of people in Westminster seem to have alcohol problems, and it seems to me like a wider societal problem not just limited to Westminster. But that is not an argument for dehumanising political work environments.

Yeah no, sorry, MPs are often cooped up in Parliament for 15 hours a day, they will have a drink with journalists or colleagues and will still be discussing politics -their job, as Hannah says. I don’t like the blanket demonisation of MPs and Hannah should know better after she had already been accused of not taking the job seriously because she took part in that dancing event in Portcullis house. It was unfair to call her unserious about that then and it is unfair of her to now suggest that MPs having a drink in between votes which take up all night is by default bad.

People are posting the results of a 58/42 poll as evidence most people would choose blue. But once we factor in that people act differently when their life is actually on the line, that’s for me evidence that red is the choice that maximizes lives saved.

It is indeed selfish when given a path of guaranteed safety, to instead choose one where your life is now dependent on others also unnecessary risking theirs. And it also is the only path where any loss of life could occur at all in this thought experiment. And yes because the vote is private, the percentage of people choosing blue is not known. But that is NOT then an argument to add additional unnecessary risk, it is in fact an argument for the opposite. As every blue vote is a potential life lost, because the percentage is unknown, if you value life, the only choice is to ensure the life you have a choice over is not at risk. You are otherwise potentially maximizing the resulting loss of life by adding to the number lost. A choice of red is the assured preservation of at least one life. A choice of blue is the potential loss of one.

But you are not making the decision for others, you are choosing only between a zero chance of death (red) and a non-zero one (blue). If you value life (both your own and others) the ONLY choice is red, as you are otherwise completely unnecessarily risking the lives of up to 49.99% of humanity. And that is a risk that only exists AT ALL BECAUSE of your choice. Choosing blue is a selfish, stupid choice that shows a total disregard for the value of human life. Yes, if one actively chooses the option where one of the potential consequences is death, then yes, one of the potential consequences is that they might die. That is not then an argument, however, to willingly risk additional lives in an effort to save those that chose potential death from themselves. If your intention is to minimize the overall loss of life, the individual choice is always to choose the zero path over the one with a non-zero potential for death. And yes, you have no control over others. If you did, then of course ensuring there is a majority of blue is the correct path. But that is not the question here.

Amazing how lots of self appointed game theory experts confidently asserting that blue is the stupid choice. But every time this poll is run blue wins. Not only is the “game theory” answer predicting the wrong outcome, its explanatory power is based on it being able to predict the right answer. So it’s doubly wrong.
