This is Hank. He is incredibly invested in this plumbing project that does not require him in the slightest. 13/10

@jogamedev @Human_yo_yo that is nice but not everyone is good at making tiny videos about trivial stuff 😓 anyway i'm glad that once again extroverts found a shortcut and winning again but for me it would be literal torture having to make these everytime I fix or add something 🤔

It's super important for gamedevs to understand why some games innately perform better on social media than others. I explored this concept deeper with my friend @Human_yo_yo and he brought up some important points so I'm sharing the entire convo here:
Jo@jogamedev

This is the most important game marketing concept no one taught me. It shows why Bopl Battle consistently pulled in 10 million views with low production quality while MegaBonk performed much worse with super high production quality. I call it Your Game's "X-Factor". I'll explain:

@RinoTheBouncer all you have to do to make an enjoyable game is to not include the usual suspects: quicktime events, unskippable cutscenes, instant death spikes, escort missions, mandatory stealth, strong fall damage etc. good game design is easy as not adding the wrong ingredients 🤔

@alexaugerdev what I find strange is nowadays the games you think would be niche find success and audience (e.g. pizza tower) and games that seem generic fail fast and disappear without trace (e.g. those multiplayer online fps games that keep coming out lately) 🤔

@colorgravemhin that may be just how steam works - I'm guilty of it myself - a demo is a lot like a steam sale: you just put everything in the basket you can and run to checkout 🧺🏃‍♂️ and then you find you have no time to play anything 😓

@mutantleg We get a lot of what I call 'collectors'. They just seem to download tons of whatever is free and just clog up their Steam library to marvel at the mess they have made. Baffling behavior.

Demo discourse is insufferable. We stop supporting our demos because we have seen the numbers across our releases and in our case it has hurt us. Demos are great leading up to a release for sure. Post release we take them down because -Hurts our sales performance. -Can be difficult juggling bug fixes and patches between the live and demo version. Mistakes have happened in the past as we are a small team and merely human. -Some content creators would cover the game using the demo version (Yeah I noticed and noted you down on our sheet) then tried selling their key. -"I download the demo to remember to buy it" crowd aren't real. They rarely play the demo and even rarer still even bother to make a purchase. Beyond that they are a loud and obnoxious minority. Demos are cool. One of my fondest memories was snagging a demo disc for Warcraft III after a movie at the AMC as a kid. Demos and the space just aren't the same anymore. But to act like a dev is anti consumer or is inherently acting out of some sort of malice or manipulation is not only obnoxious but insulting. All of this constant badgering and whining all over the place be it about demos, design, patches or typos has thoroughly worn out my patience.

I'm tired of procedural worlds, random seeds, modular assets and no story. I want to build something with insane gameplay, but also a world crafted by hand. Secrets everywhere. A deep story. A place you can truly get lost in. Will take time and people never asked for it, but i don't care. #gamedev #IndieGameDev #unity3d #RPG #Zelda
