@Olympics @Brisbane_2032 Also, is it functionally possible to have a Winter Olympics in Australia or New Zealand? Possibly split holding with another country for the skiing events?

@rcallimachi @Vivian_Marino I don’t think referencing The Commonwealth in this story is relevant. Any property bought using an owner like that would be a “Commonwealth Realm”, not just a plain old volunteer member of the Commonwealth club. Totally different things that many misunderstand.

This week, the deed for the purchase of a $6 million condo became public, revealing that the buyer was "His Majesty the King." @Vivian_Marino and I spent the afternoon looking into whether King Charles had just bought the luxury unit: nytimes.com/2024/07/12/rea…

BREAKING: @Tesla has secured a new ~$650 million contract to build the largest battery energy storage system in Australia, over twice the size of the storage system pictured below. It will mean the Neoen Collie battery will be sized at a total 560 MW & 2,240 MWh. This $650M contract means French developer Neoen will add a 341 MW/1363 MWh second stage battery to the Collie facility. Its first stage, already under construction, is sized at 219 MW/877 MWh. Both are to be built with a total of ~572 Tesla Megapack batteries, making it a massive ~$1.1 billion project. When complete, the Collie battery will have the ability to charge and discharge 20% of the average demand in Western Australia's main grid. (Photo below is a Megapack system in Phoenix & not the Collie facility. It's just for reference) Source: reneweconomy.com.au/neoens-collie-…

@StevenJMiles Terrible decision, waste of money. Pouring billions into a terrible location with awful pre/post game, terrible transport, a cemetery to display to the world. Leaving us with barely nothing for our money after the Olympics. Poor, weak, political decision. Urban planning disaster.

We will upgrade Suncorp Stadium to host the opening and closing ceremonies. We will make the Queensland State Athletics Centre (QSAC) the nation’s best athletics facility. The cricket will be played where it belongs: at the Gabba.

Queenslanders have made it clear to me they do not want to spend billions on new stadiums. We will not demolish the Gabba.

We won’t be building a new mega stadium at Victoria Park either.

@Trickyred1 @MikeyCycling If you sympathise you shouldn’t make the life of one of the few trying to do something about it harder. Your post didn’t come across as sympathetic at all.

Well well well, six weeks after I reported this driver, the V5C was updated. I wonder if that update related to the SORN and/or the mobile use? His face when I told him his insurance would likely double. Here's the video: youtu.be/JcAqpJUeXco

I'm finally going to dump Evernote for Notion. One thing I can't seem to figure out is how to scan to Notion from my Fujitsu ScanSnap. Are any of my friends in the Twitterverse using ScanSnap (or the like) to scan docs directly to a new note in Notion?

@Mysterious_Fawx @Daveyraveyrgave @drewsnx @theJeremyVine You seem blinded by your need to make a point against the OP. It was dangerous driving. Full stop. You hanging your hat on the fact that Jason let it go, or didn't realise the danger he was in, doesn't change the objective fact that it was dangerous, unprofessional driving.

@cyclesixmile @aussiewongm Aha… this is an international discrepancy. Sorry I didn’t look to see you were in US. I’m in Australia and the minimum cost for a uHaul trailer is 3 hours hire for $50.

I wish I was smart enough to finance a pickup truck for $700 per month so I didn't have to pay $20 to rent a trailer two or three times per year.

@NSheidlower @BusinessInsider fyi @NSheidlower "The country also has the Australian Retirement Trust, which handles over $240 billion in retirement savings". This is just one company that administers "superannuation", Australia's private pension scheme. Calling it out specifically doesn't make sense?

The rough outline of what I think of as the ‘beetroot line’ in the NE - as how you pronounce the word immediately places you (to NE ears at least) as being from either North or South, Geordie or Mackem/Durham. N = a guttural “beet-root” S = an elongated “beyt-roowt”

@JLB_007 @eurosport I'm not a fan of the NBA, especially for them selling out to China, but the NBA takes players from the entire "World" if they are good enough to play. This is just semantics, they are indeed global.

Clearly you are making the only comparison that you are aware of and making that the only concept of a world competition. The NBA already has the best players in the world in it .. that’s what makes it a world championship. And as far as the format goes.. No other professional basketball club in the world will beat the top 15 players in the NBA regardless of format

@JLB_007 @eurosport That's irrelevant. Many sports leagues all across the world open themselves to players from all over the world. That's normal.
