Thousands of sellers received an email yesterday informing us that we only have 24 hours before our listings for brands like LEGO, Olay, Revlon, Mattel, Funko, and Kevin Murphy, among others, will be gated. Please see the attached screenshot, but I am sure you were already aware and approved this action. Here is why I believe this is a scam Amazon has aggressively advertised over the past months that we should hurry and invest in stock to ensure products are received in time. We were given only 24 hours' notice before being gated, allowing Amazon to collect receiving fees, removal fees, and maintain the UPS contract since many sellers use partner couriers to ship products to Amazon. Additionally, Amazon “loses” products that cannot be reimbursed because the listings were deleted, hoping that many sellers will simply dispose of unsellable stock. Right now, we are suffering massive losses, and I do not think we will be able to recover. It's a hard situation. These brands sell exceptionally well during Q4, and it seems management anticipated this situation, perhaps even intending to cause significant losses. Amazon knowingly encouraged us to invest heavily in stock for Q4, only to gate us, which feels like a deliberate attempt to exploit sellers. This behavior is becoming increasingly outrageous and uncontrollable. There is zero business predictability, zero respect for sellers and business partners, zero respect for our efforts and investments, and zero respect for our employees. It is clear that Amazon knew when these brands would be locked but chose not to inform us two months in advance, opting instead for a 24-hour notice. No terms and conditions should protect Amazon from such unethical practices. Management should be ashamed of profiting by exploiting thousands of small businesses and their hard-earned money. My mission from today is to raise public awareness. I intend to take this matter to the press and government officials. At this stage, I do not care if I get suspended for speaking the truth. There are other platforms to sell on, such as Walmart, TikTok, which is booming, and eBay.
