Apple has been working on the new Siri for 2 years and the best they can offer at WWDC 2026 is still a beta… Siri launched in 2011. It was the first mainstream voice assistant on a consumer device. Apple had a 2 year head start over Google Assistant and somehow still fell behind everyone else. In 2024 they promised a completely rebuilt Siri with on-device intelligence and personal context… and 2 years later it’s still a beta. Meanwhile the App Store is expected to open up to AI agents, the M5 chip can run frontier models on device and every AI company is trying to build the assistant people use for everything Apple already has that assistant on nearly 2.5B active devices… and they still haven’t figured Siri out.
