We use certain phrases constantly in Pakistan's tax debate: broaden the tax base. Close the tax gap. Reduce evasion. Document the economy. Build trust in the FBR. Each phrase carries a precise meaning. In commentary, they are often used interchangeably, making it hard to assess the current reforms without separating them. This thread unpacks them one by one and explains what the current enforcement measures actually do.

Islamabad :18 June 2026. Prime Minister of Pakistan Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif signed the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (Islamabad MoU)، as mediator. The Islamabad MOU has been signed by President of USA Donald J. Trump and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian.

Following intensive talks, we are pleased to announce that the Peace Deal between the United States of America and Islamic Republic of Iran has been REACHED. Both sides have declared the immediate and permanent termination of military operations on all fronts, including in Lebanon. The official signing ceremony will be on Friday, 19 June in Switzerland. We would like to thank the United States of America and the Islamic Republic of Iran for their commitment to finding a diplomatic solution to the conflict. We would also like to extend our sincere appreciation to our brothers in this mediation effort, the great leadership of State of Qatar, for their support in reaching this agreement. I would also especially thank the visionary leadership of Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Republic of Türkiye for their immense contributions in this regard. With the agreement now in place, mediators will facilitate a series of meetings this week. These pre-implementation discussions will lay the foundation for the technical talks and the official signing ceremony. @realDonaldTrump @JDVance @SecRubio @SteveWitkoff @SEPeaceMissions @drpezeshkian @mb_ghalibaf @araghchi

US pressure hasn’t been able to militarily twist Iran’s arm’ — Oves Anwar, Director, Research Society of International Law ‘So how is US pressure going to enforce recognition of Israel in Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Pakistan?’

@ovesanwar my Brother, Outstanding work 👏 This is easily one of the most insightful and timely explainers on the Strait of Hormuz I've come across. You masterfully break down Iran's layered arsenal, from the lightning-fast Heydar-110 boats and deadly Maham-3 mines to Qader missiles and Shahed drones, and how they all feed into a sophisticated strategy to dominate this narrow chokepoint. The way you connect the military tactics with the broader geopolitical game, especially how the Strait has become central to the US-Iran confrontation, is brilliant. What really stood out was your balanced take on the ‘Tehran Tollbooth’, analyzing its practical effectiveness while rigorously examining its lawfulness under international law. In a world where ~20% of global oil and LNG flows through this strait, your explanation of the massive ripple effects on energy markets, global trade, and everyday economies is both sobering and essential viewing. This isn't just analysis, it's a public service in a time of real volatility. Deeply researched, clearly presented, and urgently relevant. Thank you for producing such high-quality, accessible content! Aag hai Aag 🔥
