Does my UCU still have those metallic chambered plates where they would put for us peas, posho, gnuts, meat, fish and they carry for us upto the wooden dinning tables, then after serve us water before the 5pm evening tea and fried eggs. We enjoyed life in the 2000s.

NIRA Celebrates Love Ahead of Valentine’s Day with 14 Couples As the world prepares to celebrate Valentine’s Day, we have through our Civil Registration Department, marked the season of love in a special way — by uniting and legally formalizing the marriages of over 14 couples in a colorful civil ceremony. The couples were issued on-the-spot marriage certificates, officially cementing their unions in accordance with the laws of Uganda. The event not only celebrated love but also highlighted the importance of formalizing relationships through civil registration. Speaking at the ceremony, the Commissioner for Civil Registration- @vincentkatutsi, noted that the initiative was intended to inspire more couples to embrace civil marriage and take advantage of the simplified and digitized process. “This event is meant to demonstrate that the process of acquiring a civil marriage certificate is seamless and accessible. We encourage all willing couples to formalize their unions,” he said. Mr. Katutsi emphasized that NIRA has digitized a significant portion of the civil marriage registration process. Applications can now be submitted online, making it more convenient for couples to initiate the process from anywhere in the country. Once approved, the marriage ceremony can be conducted in the district of submission across Uganda. At the district level, the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) presides over civil marriage ceremonies, while in Kampala, the Executive Director-NIRA, who serves as the Registrar General, oversees the ceremonies. Civil marriage is one of the legally recognized marriage types in Uganda. The Government of Uganda also recognizes Islamic, customary, church, and Hindu marriages. Agencies like: churches, Mosques etc, licenced to carry out marriages on behalf of government are expected to routinely file returns with NIRA. We encourage couples to legalize their relationships in order to enjoy a wide range of invaluable matrimonial benefits.
