Was it here? ““Now whenever you fast, do not make a gloomy face as the hypocrites do, for they distort their faces so that they will be noticed by people when they are fasting. Truly I say to you, they have their reward in full. But as for you, when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face, so that your fasting will not be noticed by people but by your Father who is in secret; and your Father who sees what is done in secret will reward you.” Matthew 6:16-18

1. The "Author" Fallacy Matt is making the classic mistake of confusing the Instrument with the Composer. He assumes that because AI generated the visuals, AI wrote the story. But AI didn't wake up and decide to make a movie about space marines. A Human did. The Human: Had the idea. The Human: wrote the script (or guided the generation of it). The Human: directed the pacing, the tone, and the emotional beats. The AI: Rendered the pixels. Refusing to watch an "AI Movie" because the camera didn't have a soul is like refusing to read a book because the typewriter didn't have a soul. The soul comes from the person hitting the keys. 2. The Democratization of the Blockbuster What Matt misses is that this technology destroys the gatekeepers of Hollywood. Previously, if you had a brilliant, soulful, life-changing story that required $200M to visualize, you had to ask Disney for permission. If they said no, your story died. Now? You can tell that story yourself. The "Soul" Matt is looking for will actually flourish more now, because millions of unique human voices finally have the budget to visualize their dreams without studio interference. 3. The Post Draft The Camera Has No Soul (And That’s Okay) Matt Walsh says he won’t watch an AI movie because "the story has no soul." He thinks the Algorithm is the Author. He is confusing the Pen with the Poet. When The Dor Brothers made that film, the AI didn't hallucinate a plot out of thin air. A Human dreamt the concept. A Human curated the shots. A Human paced the edit to make you feel something. The AI is just the Infinite Camera. Does a RED camera have hopes and dreams? Does a paintbrush have a soul? No. They are tools used to transmit Human intent. If you refuse to watch a movie because the pixels were generated by code, you aren't defending Art. You are defending Budget. You are saying a story only matters if it cost a studio $200M to film it physically. We aren't watching "ChatGPT's hopes and dreams." We are watching a human creator finally free to show us theirs, without asking Hollywood for permission.

I don't understand how anyone can be impressed by this. Okay, wow, an algorithm spit out some images that look kind of real. Okay cool. The fundamental problem with AI content -- and why I will never be interested in an AI movie, no matter how realistic it looks -- is that I just have no interest in the stories that an algorithm tells. I don't want to watch an AI story any more than I want to sit around and listen to ChatGPT tell me about its hopes and dreams. If the story has no soul then it lacks the one and only thing that can make it worthwhile or interesting.
The Dor Brothers@thedorbrothers

We just made a $200,000,000 AI movie in just one day. Yes, this is 100% AI.

@bart_walker @Sensus_Fidelium Yeah I think you make a good point so far as Ash Wednesday and Lent go, Ash Wednesday has turned into "I'm so pious look at me" in the social media age, and Lent has turned into "alright I gotta give up something because thats what we do" without any actual thought of *why* we do

@quantumking_ @Sensus_Fidelium Glad someone caught that! 😂😂 And what I mean by that is what it has become as a modern secular holiday. It almost completely crowds out the holy and the good. Makes me sad. And stressed out.

Please don't do the ash-selfie tomorrow. Tomorrow is the non holy day of obligation holy day of obligation. (Last year, at the local TLM, people parked 15 min away to walk ... to just get ashes then leave. By the time communion came the crowd was about 1/3 smaller.) It's kinda like smiling to take the photo after you are arrested. If you are getting ashes just to post on Instagram, you are doing it wrong. Something about don't let the right hand know what the left hand is doing (sure we 'disfigure our faces with ashes but we don't need to make sure it's posted on X, Instagram, Facebook, etc.. practice detachment from selfies for the first day.. you're apostolate won't lose donations over not posting an ash selfie Everyone knows you are getting it (especially the big names on here), you don't need to do a "hey look at me" selfie. I think it was St Philip Neri who said 'want to be unknown'.

Despite being told repeatedly ashes have NOTHING to do with fasting, AJ keeps lying about it: Lent: 40-day fast. Ashes are used—once Good Friday: obligatory fast day—no ashes St. Michaels Lent (August/September)—no ashes Ember days are fast days—no ashes Ashes ≠ fasting. 🙄

Unpopular opinion, but Ash Wednesday is my least favorite day of the year. Christmas is second. Distribution of ashes and wearing them around town has become so performative for some folks it makes me feel cynical. It has become a pandering talisman for insincere politicians and celebrities. As long as they get the shot for their stock photo, they can be labeled "devout" whenever they do something inconsistent with the faith.

@MurrayRundus It’s funny how the argument effectively hinges on “many Catholics are weak in their faith” Like yeah cafeteria Catholics exist and are great in number and that sucks, the Church is not a democracy though

Hilarious little thread here “Vatican 2 MUST BE ACCEPTED by every Catholic! Schismatic! Schismatic!” -Vatican 2 is against birth control, do you accept that? “😅 uhhh, Humanae Vitae is a dead letter! Many Catholics use birth control!” It’s all so tiresome
Matthew Hazell@M_P_Hazell

@NelwynToes @thelb236 You obviously don't believe this, since you do not affirm «Gaudium et spes», n. 51: "[S]ons of the Church may not undertake methods of birth control which are found blameworthy by the teaching authority of the Church in its unfolding of the divine law." x.com/i/status/17853…

@CyfanSpencer @DBSportsYT TCU and Cincinnati are not seeded 9th behind us, it's not a valid comparison In a 7 vs 8 toss-up (call it like it is, it's a toss-up when it's that close) it's nonsensical to not defer to H2H

@DBSportsYT One game does not make a season. We're also a month away from selection Sunday. We could easily be a 1 or 3 seed by then.

Property tax is literally the only tax that makes intuitive sense. A local tax based on the property you choose to live on that goes toward things such as roads, police, fire departments, etc. that are amenities directly connected to that particular property. Meanwhile, the federal government just sends your federal income tax dollars to fund Israel and gay pride parties at the Department of Labor. Of all the taxes, property tax is the least retarded and I’m tired of hearing boomers complain about it.

@MrEncouragement @JamesDueck Now my examples there aren’t to say I think it’s just an intellectual assent or that we can deny Christs divinity or anything but they, among many others, are questions that are raised and not directly answered, and we need to be able to correctly know what God desires out of us

@MrEncouragement @JamesDueck Like, there are a lot of salvation-important questions that get raised even just in the phrase “belief in Christ” and I think we need to understand how to correctly interpret the revelation from God, we can’t just call a halfway answer good enough, yknow

Catholics: We need to make Sola Scriptura a trendy topic in Christianity. Most Protestants believe in it without realizing it. All we need to do is have the conversation. Church unity becomes realistic once Sola Scriptura is debunked!

@MrEncouragement @JamesDueck There's this weird idea that people have that the Catholic Church rejects scripture in favor of tradition and the magisterium - this is entirely untrue, the Church pulls her principles from scripture, she *interprets* scripture colored by tradition and the magisterium

@MrEncouragement @JamesDueck Well yeah that's because its a biblical principle. The question then becomes "what is the correct way to worship that is pleasing to God" and that's an answer that any two protestants can't really agree on, but two Catholics can affirm the same that it is the Catholic Mass
