Maruti Suzuki eVitara launched with introductory pricing starting at ₹10.99 lakh under a Battery-as-a-Service ownership model, along with battery usage cost estimated at ₹3.99/km. Sales have begun through NEXA showrooms and online bookings, with customers able to reserve the electric SUV with an initial payment of ₹21,000. The model is built on the HEARTECT-e platform and uses lithium-ion battery packs of 49kWh and 61kWh capacity, offering a certified range of up to 543km and DC rapid charging capability that takes the battery from 10–80% in about 45 minutes. The SUV introduces Level 2 ADAS functions including adaptive cruise control and lane-keeping assistance, along with seven airbags including a driver knee airbag. These milestones mark a significant step forward in Suzuki’s commitment to the Government of India’s ‘Make in India’ and ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ initiatives. TDS Lithium-ion Battery Gujarat Private Limited has become the first company in India to achieve electrode level localization of lithium-ion battery cells, making India self-reliant in battery manufacturing for hybrid electric vehicles. This electrode level localization is one step towards increasing proliferation of Hybrid Electric Vehicles in the country.
