I knew that PM Modi had promised 100 smart cities, but didn't deliver even one. But I wasn't aware that 1.5 lakh crores have been spent! Since CNBC is reporting this, I presume the figure is accurate. If so, it is a colossal scandal.

@stellensatz For some reason private colleges are happy paying lakhs/crores for coursera subscription than encourage use of freely available NPTEL.

NPTEL, which started well before Coursera, is still going strong. If it had been "founded" closer to San Jose, its founders would have by now entered "tech" mythology.

When I was in Melbourne in 2007–08, a severe drought led the government to promote 4-minute showers. They handed out 4-minute sand timers and discouraged car washing, lawn watering, etc. So yes, the idea’s been around for a while — and it seemed to work.

I know someone who showers for more than 20 minutes every day. Can the Govt consider bringing in some regulations to ensure that no one spends more than 4 minutes a day under the shower?
