@bobpockrass Most likely the middle tire is hooked to an encoder and brake/motor. They probably slowly add more resistance to the tire until it starts to slip which gives them the friction cooeffienct of the known rubber tire versus the surface.

The tire in the middle collects data as far as the friction/grip of the surface.

@markmartin In the northeast, the purse for super late models hasn’t moved in many years but the price for tires/fuel/pit entry/parts goes up nearly every year. The potential winnings versus cost to simply race let alone if you tear anything up is killing car counts.

Man these dirt late models race for a lot of money. I wish the pavement late models could have more races that pay big money.

I was wondering about Briscoe - he is currently told he is running .3 secs slower than leaders. He is about 15 secs behind the second-to-last car on lead lap, p29.
