Ruth Shack was small in stature but a giant for our community. Since I moved to Miami 45 years ago, she became my role model and mentor: generous, kind, and always open to learning and new ideas. Her legacy of courage, compassion, and service will live on in Miami-Dade forever. May her memory be a blessing. 🕊️

Last night, we celebrated the intersection of art, education, and community at @EducationFund's Love of Art Annual Charity Auction & Public School Alumni Achievement Honoree Celebration! This event highlights the essential role visual arts play in sparking creativity and fueling academic success for students across @MDCPS. We are especially proud to celebrate one of our own. A huge congratulations to Dr. Carmen Concepcion, Dean of @MDCollege School of Education, on being named an Alumni Achievement Honoree! Dr. Concepción’s lifelong dedication to education, passion for student success, and deep commitment to our community make this recognition truly well-deserved. We were also proud to celebrate fellow honorees Dr. Dawn M. Baglos, Jose Sirven, and Grant Miller for their exceptional leadership and unwavering support of education and the arts in Miami-Dade. Congratulations to all of this year’s distinguished honorees!

@MDCollege and @JacksonHealth are joining forces to launch the Health Science Collegiate Academy in Miami’s Health District — a first-of-its-kind school designed to prepare the next generation of healthcare leaders. Opening in August 2027, the Academy will give Miami-Dade students early access to college-level coursework, hands-on clinical learning, and career pathways in nursing, allied health, and healthcare administration. This innovative partnership will help build a stronger, more resilient healthcare workforce for South Florida while expanding opportunity for students in our community. Ken Griffin invested in Miami and on the students of @MDCollege. In 2023, his historic gift set in motion something greater than a scholarship fund. It was a statement of belief: that talent is everywhere, and that opportunity should be too. Since then, more than 8,000 students have received the support they need to pursue their education, build their futures, and stay the course on the on ramp to the American Dream at MDC. Many of the students today at our nations most prestigious universities pursing careers in fields like computer science, engineering, and finance, all careers that will continue to power-up Miami's talent. The Griffin Scholarship Fund has empowered thousands of students to turn ambition into achievement and aspiration into opportunity through the power of education!

The Miami legend that was Burdine's opened as a General Merchandise & Dry Goods store in the 1850's in Miami, FL. In 1937 Burdine Stadium was built in Miami for the Miami Hurricanes Football team & Orange Classic each year. In 1949 this stadium would be renamed the Orange Bowl.

I've seen many in Florida lay claim 2 the best Cuban sandwich. Today 2026, only 1 spot in the nation, roasts their own pork, brines & cures their own ham, makes their own Cuban bread, brines their own pickles & makes their own mustard. This is by far the best Cuban in the U.S

This is, at best, an incomplete thought. At worst, a very bad take on the policy required to build a Miami where everyone thrives. How can Miami be "THE CITY OF THE PRESENT AND THE FUTURE:" if teachers, nurses, and firefighters are unable to afford rent or a mortgage in the very communities they serve? The American Dream should not only be available in... checks notes... Broward, as you suggest. Miami-Dade may be land constrained by two bodies of water, but there is no reason we cannot build much more housing - along transit lines! - quickly.

People are leaving miami because of one simple fact: we are supply constrained of land like Singapore. 15 miles from the ocean to the Everglades. If we had land like Orlando Tampa nashville Austin etc we would continue to grow. People have to move to Broward to Palm beach or homestead for a slice of the American dream. This doomerism is not grounded in the economic reality. MIAMI IS THE CITY OF THE PRESENT AND FUTURE!!

A record 10,115 of residents left Miami in 2024/2025, the 3rd-largest population decline among all U.S. counties, due to the disastrous mismanagement of county commissioners like this guy. Meanwhile he lives in a delusional world where Miami is “climbing towards dominance.”
