This is wrong. Total units/population isn't nearly as important as units built/population. Lots of those units are in wrong places or contain fewer ppl/unit than ever
Red area here is housing that doesn't exist. It's what 2008 caused us not to build. We do have a shortage.

Everyone keeps saying America has a “housing shortage.” It doesn’t. Divide total homes by population and you get this: We’ve never had more housing per person than we do right now. The problem isn’t supply. It’s prices.

Florida’s Live Local Act flew under the radar when it passed in 2023. Almost 3 years later, there’s 52,000 Live Local units in the pipeline per @FLHousingC’s tracker. Obvs pipeline units are just that. Even so, that’s got to make it one of the most productive YIMBY bills ever.
