@owenjonesjourno @EHRC Owen, men’s incessant, ubiquitous violence against women & girls results in 3 murders a week in the UK alone. So no, we won’t share our few places of refuge -which allow us to take part in public life – with trans-ID men, which means any man who’ll say the words “I’m a woman”…

@robfordmancs @residentadviser I'm not actually sure the 166 majority is helping Labour much. If anything the size od the majority seems to be encouraging in fighting and poor party discipline. Maybe a lower majority plus an election win might actually focus minds. Or the current PLP are just ungovernable...

@robfordmancs @residentadviser I agree its hard to see how the polling gives a good % chance of a workable majority. But hypothetically if the polling did indicate it, I can see how a workable 40 seat majority, 5 years and a personal mandate might be preferable to 166 seats and 3 years.

@robfordmancs @residentadviser Let's put it this way. What would the % chance of winning a majority need to be for you to hold an election? Obviously you go for it at 99%; but not at 10%. But whats the lowest probability where you would still take the chance, 60-70%?

@residentadviser What on earth is the upside? You will definitely lose seats, probably a lot. And for what, exactly?

@joncstone There's a tiny one here that I used to sit on in summer when I lived about 100m away. But I think a problem is for there to be enough of a gyre for the sand/pebbles to stay there meant it also accumulated a lot of plastic waste.

London is the greatest city in the world but one thing it does lack is a good beach. If we're gonna have more days like this we should 1) clean up the water and 2) build a big beach in inner London accessible by tube. (NYC did this in the 1930s) How about along the shore here

@mattwridley For example: Is it possible for example that people aged 70-80+ who die during the winter are more likely to be categorised as dying from pneumonia in the US but due to generic "cold" in Europe?

@mattwridley Hmm. Obviously there are parts of the US where the climate is much warmer in winter. And heating is cheaper in the US. But this feels like a data categorization error. Given US citizens die on average earlier than European ones they must be dying from something.

@StuartMaggs I think part of the problem is that people don't realise marginal rates for middle/higher earners have to be higher than average rates for top earners. Because maths. This leads to people around 50k+ feeling unfairly treated. x.com/robertemeryx/s…
Robert Emery@robertemeryx

People often complain that marginal rates of tax are too high for people who earn wages that are above average but fall short of what most people would consider rich. But the main problem here isn't tax policy - it's just maths. Grab a seat. 1/8 (chair)
