Riza Alimnur, daughter of Alimnur Turganbay, a Kazakh citizen illegally detained in Ili Kazakh Autonomous Prefecture, Xinjiang since July 26, 2025, stated after a closed-door hearing on January 29 that all the procedures for her father's acquisition of Kazakh citizenship were complete. She claimed he cancelled his Chinese household registration, and that his written applications to renounce his Chinese citizenship and voluntarily acquire Kazakh citizenship were notarized and recognized by both China and Kazakhstan. She further stated that the procedures were approved by the Chinese Embassy in Kazakhstan, and his original Chinese passport bore the official seal of the Chinese Embassy in Kazakhstan, indicating "cancellation." Despite this, she claimed he was still being unreasonably and unjustly accused by the Chinese authorities of being a Chinese citizen or holding dual citizenship. She added that she heard her father was sentenced to two years and six months in prison, but there was no written notification; the information was only verbally communicated to relatives and acquaintances in Xinjiang by the Chinese authorities. Riza Alimnur was in Kazakhstan to attend the closed-door trial of his mother, Guldaria Sherizat, who was also charged with "incitement to ethnic hatred." Guldaria Sherizat, along with 17 members of Atajurt and one non-Atajurt member—a total of 19 people—were indicted for burning the Chinese flag and portrait of Xi Jinping. The indictment cited diplomatic notes sent by China to Kazakhstan. Our Atajurt members, through investigation, learned that Alimnur Turganbay has a mother and younger brother in Ili Kazakh Autonomous Prefecture, Xinjiang. They are Chinese citizens. But the authorities won't let them see Alimnur. They don't even have the right to know. The authorities forbid them from making phone calls to Alimnur's family abroad. They forced them to block Alimnur's wife, Guldaria Sherizat, and Alimnur's three daughters' accounts on WeChat and TikTok, preventing them from communicating with each other.

‼️ Tomorrow, a brave 🇨🇳 national, Guan Heng, will have an asylum hearing in New York. He came to America after photographing evidence of the CCP’s genocide of Uyghurs in Xinjiang. If Guan is deported to China, he will face certain imprisonment and torture, and possibly death.

In late 2020, at great personal risk, Mr. Guan traveled across Xinjiang to document China’s mass detention system when journalists were barred from the region. His footages, including of the Dabancheng detention complex, one of the largest ever identified, provided some of the first on-the-ground evidence that these crimes were continuing, even as Beijing falsely claimed the camps had closed. He released this evidence only after safely reaching the United States, fully aware that discovery would mean severe punishment. Today, the very individual who helped expose Uyghur atrocities is in ICE detention awaiting immigration processing. I respect that ICE is carrying out its duties. At the same time, this is a genuine political asylum case, no different from those of countless Uyghurs fleeing persecution by the CCP. If Mr. Guan were returned to China, he would face an extreme and credible risk of imprisonment, torture, or worse. This case is deeply personal to me. My own sister Dr. Gulshan Abbas has been arbitrarily detained by China for years. I know firsthand the fate that awaits those targeted by the state. I have been working with Mr. Guan’s legal team and have submitted an affidavit of support to the court. With great respect, I humbly urge ICE, @AGPamBondi, and the immigration judge to grant Heng Guan protection and asylum. His hearing is scheduled for tomorrow (Dec 15) morning at 8:30 a.m. EST.
