BMC has put brakes on Mumbai Mayor Ritu Tawde’s plans to construct arch-shaped entry gates at the city’s check nakas in Airoli, Dahisar, Mankhurd and Mulund to showcase Mumbai’s heritage. The civic administration is not in favour of the proposal, citing space constraints. Officials said there is inadequate space to erect the gates as Metro corridors are planned through the Dahisar check nakas, while the eastern freeway elevated road project is under way near the Mulund check naka.

A speedboat carrying 32 Indian tourists sank near Hon May Rut Ngoai off Phu Quoc, Vietnam. At least 18 people have been rescued so far, while around 15 are feared dead.
