Not trying to sit on the fence but I think it's both. Platform algorithms are designed to be addictive, but parents are also in charge of their children. Far too often they play the victim when it's just bad parenting. I used to work in mental health and at least 90% of the kids that had issues had terrible parents.

@NicoPerrino Strong disagree. These are corporate products first, not speech platforms, and that distinction is vital. The same principles of common/social good that govern environmental pollution can & should be applied here. Parents are vital, but their action is not enough in this case.

I'm concerned about this verdict and the overall trend of treating speech platforms as addictive — and therefore dangerous — products. Also, the verdict diminishes the responsibility parents have to raise healthy kids. For example: "Kaley says she began using YouTube at age 6 and Instagram at age 9 and told the jury she was on social media 'all day long' as a child." Where were the parents?

As a long time Google ecosystem hopeful, I don’t think Aluminum OS will matter. I would love to be proven wrong but ever since the Nexus line and OG Chromebook I’ve wanted Google to actually compete with a real option to Microsoft or Apple. Samsung is by far closer to that mark. Google just has too many layers and a general lack of cohesion in their culture to do what needs to be done. They just really suck at building a meaningful ecosystem. It’s a culture problem not a technical problem. Maybe if Sergey went crazy and fired a few layers of management it could happen.

Out of curiosity, why does anyone think aluminum OS is a big deal? ChromeOS today supports Android apps but runs on Chromium as the OS What new capabilities will swapping to Android allow, given the main benefit of Android (apps) already run?

I don’t think people realize how much healthcare costs are driving big companies to fire and not hire. It costs them $30k per family, per year for premiums and care. Most of that goes to the massive, vertically integrated insurance companies that send weekly bills that no one reviews in details. And it doesn’t include the company overhead to deal with it all. It’s usually the 2nd largest expense after payroll. Which is insane It’s far easier to blame AI than it is to blame Healthcare costs. Want to increase jobs, wages and improve affordability for every American ? Break up the biggest insurance companies. Make divest non insurance companies. They don’t need thousands of subsidiaries. That’s how they game and abuse the system and increase costs for all of us. Call your senator and tell them to support the BreakUp Big Medicine Bill by @HawleyMO and @SenWarren.

Just because it's coming up again If you don't have a charger at your home/apartment/workplace, EVs are not worth it Public charging only in a convenient way is more expensive and time consuming than gas. If you have the aforementioned, you never think about it.
