@LinkofSunshine @jazzloaf The existence of seat belt laws obviously leads to good habits. There is virtually 0 downside to wearing a seatbelt if you are used to it, any discomfort only occurs if it's used irregularly. I am okay allowing no seatbelts for # of more people in the car than total seats, though

@nagamyzuna Acting as though it is unimportant and almost obvious that you have changed (kind of similar to how someone would act about their 13-year-old self making a bad choice) makes other people feel the same way. Maybe doesn’t work for you specifically but seems like +EV approach

@nagamyzuna Regardless of if that’s how you see it, most Americans do not see 2020-era woke as something evil, more just like annoying. Giving a long and serious response to something generally doesn’t make the average person like you more.

@maybemaru_ @volkstyles @madsssagascar An artist who digitally creates their art likely uses more energy than an AI model generating an image from a prompt (unless the prompter uses an enormous number of retry attempts with slightly modified prompts)

@zetaabsbs @SK8GEEK @threenotes_jp I agree that people definitely made it seem more sad than it was, but no way you didn’t tear up at least a little bit when they read the letter.

@SK8GEEK @threenotes_jp For me it was the most 8/10 anime ever, it was just a good anime, i expected to cry uncontrollably thanks to what people said about it, by the end i was just like "Yeah that was good, i guess."

Processed meats have officially been classified as Group 1 carcinogens by the International Agency for Research on Cancer, placing them in the same category as tobacco and asbestos in terms of the strength of scientific evidence linking them to cancer. Foods such as bacon, ham, hot dogs, and sausages have been strongly associated with colorectal cancer. Researchers say the risk is largely connected to the way these meats are processed. Methods like curing, smoking, and salting can create harmful compounds including nitrosamines, which may damage DNA over time. Preservatives such as nitrates and nitrites, along with high temperature cooking methods like grilling or frying, can also increase the formation of carcinogenic chemicals. Health experts stress that this does not mean eating a slice of bacon carries the same overall danger as smoking cigarettes, but it does mean the evidence that processed meat can cause cancer is considered conclusive. Many specialists recommend reducing intake of processed meats and choosing alternatives such as fish, beans, or other plant based proteins more often. For people who continue eating red or processed meat, cutting back on portion size and frequency may help lower long term cancer risk and support overall health and longevity. Source: International Agency for Research on Cancer. IARC Monographs evaluate consumption of red meat and processed meat. World Health Organization.

@talonrenwick @buchsbaum_86677 @BackThenFB Texas was never going to be out, was pretty much impossible with the win over Alabama. But yeah, as soon as Texas was 3 it meant FSU was out. Because the order was always MICH/WASH/TEX/ALA or MICH/WASH/FSU/TEX.

@AIandDesign @Meta “Literally nobody benefits from this” is extremely wrong. AI replacing the majority of jobs would be extremely beneficial to society. Either new, more productive jobs will be opened by AI, or working will no longer be essential to society. Both are good.

I'm not gonna lie, the @Meta layoffs are some of the most dystopian I've ever seen. They got told to work from home, they were sent the emails at 4AM in the morning. Those who weren't impacted have software on their computer that tracks their every move, preparing AI to take their job as well. They're literally training the AI that will eliminate their position as well. Meanwhile, Meta is raking in RECORD PROFITS. I am a massive, unapologetic AI enthusiast. Yet, this is NOT the future I had in mind. I wish for Meta to crash and burn. This is not the way. Literally nobody benefits from this.

@thejoycezhang @LoriGottlieb1 Think about how you would feel if your husband started telling everyone that he could that he wasn’t that attracted to you but then he read a book about settling and decided to give it another shot

@thejoycezhang @LoriGottlieb1 This is a good realization and I am happy for you, but you should consider how it probably makes him feel that you only decided to date him after reading a book about settling (and also tell the whole world this). Some things you should just realize and keep to yourself

I would not have gone on a second date with my fiancé if I hadn't read @LoriGottlieb1's Marry Him. After our first date, he asked me out again. I said no. Three weeks later, I was reading her book. I'd been single for five years and often wondered if I was too picky. I got to the part where she distinguishes between date qualities and husband qualities. He immediately came to mind. I texted him, we went on a second date, and I shared with him my realization. I now spend every day with him and am so happy to be in the most emotionally honest relationship I've been in. Beyond the impact on my dating life, I was struck by how much of herself she disclosed in the book. I long thought projecting confidence and credentials was how I'd convey credibility. Her writing showed me how powerful and connecting it can be to share openly about my dating challenges. Her book reads like a letter to young women to take dating seriously and focus on what actually matters in the long run. I'm grateful I listened. I got to thank her in person and hear her speak at the Global Love Conference this year.

@BasedHypnotist It’s kind of a natural consequence of US society as a whole becoming more materialistic. I think it’s pretty dumb, but it isn’t too surprising. Many of the older generations grew up poorer and in a less materialistic culture, so they didn’t have their expectations warped.

@RussekFilm @HistoryBoomer They may actually be getting the same or almost the same happiness from the cheaper version, but if they had increased expectations they would no longer feel this way. Never getting used to some expensive versions of things that seem unnecessary might lead to higher QOL overall

@RussekFilm @HistoryBoomer This is a very interesting argument, because I think having less your whole life may actually increase your QOL later. If you ever get used to the more expensive version of something, it’s a lot harder for people to go back than if they have only used the cheaper version.

Eating for $10 a day is very possible. ChatGPT gave me this budget. You could save even more by cutting down on meat and fresh veggies. I spend more than this (not poor anymore!), but eggs, pasta, peanut butter, beans, yogurt, cheese, and bread are in heavy rotation for me.

@HistoryBoomer Spending 10 dollars a day on food is impossible unless you eat 1 meal a day from Dollar Tree, in which case you will have a miserable life.

@brownandbella @furiadidonna @Jackkk The colleges would do the exact same thing for the kid of a famous black person. If you want to argue they are classist, I am much more willing to agree with that

@sepocham @furiadidonna @Jackkk And this is absolutely discriminatory… if you yell MERIT at Black ppl getting into top schools assuming they don’t match their peers then soften to “well, the rich white ppl can help us more so it’s ok if we favor them and REALLY drop our standards!” Is HELLA racist. So.

Kevin O’Leary reveals he cuts his kids off after college “I set up a trust. It does not provide to anybody anything after they finish education” “From birth to the last day of education, full free ride. Everything paid for but if you drop out of school or you don’t make it to college, you’re cut off” “My son was doing really poorly in high school and said, ‘My friend has a trust. Tell me how mine works’. I said this trust pays till you finish high school but with your marks you’re probably never making it to college” “He said, ‘Yeah, but I don’t have to worry about it. I got a trust’. I said no, if you only make it through high school, I’m dead and you’re broke” “The horror in his eyes when he figured that out motivated him to get off his ass and use the next three years to milk that trust to get into college” “He got his marks up, became an engineer, worked for Tesla and got into both Harvard and MIT”

@brownandbella @furiadidonna @Jackkk This is because the college views it as more beneficial to them to accept these cases than their average borderline applicant, not for any discriminatory reasons but simply because they are probably more likely to increase the college’s notability and to later donate money

@emiweemiwe @victryena Yeah cheese pizza in general is actually a pretty fine source of protein, not an excellent source by any means but you could probably meet protein goals on just normal pizza alone if it was your entire diet.

@oecolamp This doesn’t make any sense at all. You seem to be missing the part where “their own food at home” also went through an extremely optimized supply chain with low margins to get to the grocery store where they bought it, similarly to if it had gone to a restaurant.

It's honestly a massive market failure if a person producing their own food at home can achieve a lower marginal cost than a competative market of firms solely dedicated to producing hot meals. Can't understand why you would support free markets if they can't even deliver lunch.
