@rootcausesleuth This is how I know there are no modern apostles, because if there were, one of them would have most definitely smitten Joel or Dale with blindness by now, like Paul did to that Bar-Jesus guy.
English

@Jondaphemp @rootcausesleuth I mean, I know a book that tells the same story 66 different ways. 😉
English

@rootcausesleuth @sethpye Its hard. Because its the same story 6 different ways
English

@joebranca & I can't make any categorical claim that you or Heiser or anyone else is right or wrong. I've honestly barely put my toes in. But it's intriguing, and I am in full agreement with the tragic Dane who says there are more things in heaven and earth than are dreamt of in philosophy.
English

@sethpye Certainly. The humble claim is the OT narrative traces the human covenant promise line, and the tyrant line. Gen 6 fits better thematically as pre-Pharaoh, pre-Beast tyrant "sons of God" relying on divine kingship claims (ANE!), butchering the weaker and seizing women at will.
English

@joebranca I think you meant to say, "the OT [as I understand it]".
Discerning the themes of scripture is a literal lifetime worth of work, and there will be disparate vantage points on these issues. We do well to hold our preferred perspective humbly.
English

@sethpye He pushed claims within a broader truth of real conflict b/w holy and rebellious realms. Various myths (Norse, Germanic, Greek, Meso, etc) highlighted agency of semi-divine pantheons, but the OT focuses on spiritual conflict within humanity b/w promised seed & the serpent seed.
English

@ErbunnNinja I'm genuinely interested in hearing you expand on that thought...

@MapEffects And then follow up Heiser and JRR with Jack's sci-fi trilogy, with particular emphasis on 𝐓𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐇𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐨𝐮𝐬 𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐭𝐡.
English

@sethpye I’ve been saying this for years. Read Heiser, and then read The Silmarillion and you’ll never see it the same way again.
Obviously Heiser isn’t making things up either when Tolkien predates Heiser and is clearly pulling from older sources than to write his legendarium.

I can't imagine ever not loving this song. It gets more real with every listen.

@Strangeland_Elf @thescottbarber No. It's Jack Allen. This is set in that time period after Whit abruptly left to go to the Middle East. Tom Holland is playing Eugene.

@NickQuient @DPGBehler I recently heard Nijay Gupta @eng_Scrptr say that he wants to "make ecumenism great again", meaning we should strive to embrace other traditions if we see they're pulling in the same direction: Towards the Royal Court and presence of King Jesus.
English

@AndyHogue @NickQuient Came here to post this exact gif. 😆
(Also, I re-watched this recently, and it's better than I remember or it generally gets credit for being.)
English

@DPGBehler @BillArnoldTeach If I'm being honest, I thought the OP was promoting a restoration of a Hammer Film...
English

@BillArnoldTeach Therefore Catholicism is true and Protestantism false.
Pack it up, fellas. We lost to this ironclad argument.
