Nationalism like a monotone repeat the word “equality” in regards the Irish language. Let’s just break that down: (1) nationalism say Irish language is an issue of “equality” - and so it must be elevated & placed on parity with the English language. This is so, they say, because nationalism’s chosen “language” is Irish. (2) if that’s right, then on their own case, surely every citizen’s chosen language is also a matter of “equality”. (3) that being the case, on what basis is Polish, Romanian, Hebrew etc not also entitled to the same elevated status as Irish? (4) or, is it the case that Irish is a “special case”, whereby “equality” requires the elevation of **that** language, but not other languages? Reductio ad Absurdum.
