@kyanbuilds @johnappscaler did you respond to the original thread? if you do it gets added to the investigation case and it gets routed to the team that's handling it

this happened to me too, but my customers are not college students. just another demographic that would respond in the same way. my refund rate actually went from < 1% to 25% in one month. it was insane i thought my whole account would get nuked in the end though i took the free trial out altogether which brought my refund rate back down to 3% and then 1% and then < 1% again in the months to follow but the immediate effect was that it had my payouts resume. the money that didn't drop just randomly dropped on it's own one day about 3 weeks later hope this helps bro. i know you are probably panicking right now but i heard this happens to a lot of people so you are not alone

free trials only result in low refund requests if: > you are a huge brand, highly trusted > payment at the end of trial is low (< $10) > user uses the app every day between trial start and conversion if you don’t have all of these, scaling will get your app store payouts paused

@Mauro_Botanes @0xdarito @kyanbuilds no, i used to reply to every support request asking for refund and guide them to apples refund page. i stopped that. i’m also reducing annual pricing and doing some other stuff. i’m curious- how did your case get resolved? randomly, or after you reduced refund rate?

2 days before I'm supposed to get my first ever App Store payout, Apple pauses them for no reason. Anyone experience something similar? I need this revenue to continue reinvesting & growing 😵‍💫

they told me explicitly it was high refund requests in the email. i had 420 subscriptions in the past month, mostly annual. refunds in the past 2 weeks have been a higher because i went viral in a super price-sensitive niche. spoke w someone else and it looks like i gotta lower pricing if i want to continue scaling with tiktok organic i’ll def remove the review input just to be safe too

@shivan20222 @Mauro_Botanes @kyanbuilds interesting, I had the same refund rate few month ago but it was only on 30-40 transactions (5 of them refunded). Is yours at the higher scale? If not maybe it’s not high refund rate, maybe review input during onboarding?

@shivan20222 @_frederickjames can you tell me how many subscriptions you had? like 50 refunds from how many in total for that month? do you have data to see how many consumption requests you got?

I've studied 100+ paywalls in the past ~2 months. These are the 5 sections of a high-converting paywall. Mine made me $260 in 8 days.

high is like 10-20% but apple doesn’t allow all refunds to be made so i work on server side things with apple and also changed paywall (made the amount billed more clear) so i see all consumption requests and all refunds issued since weeks working on reducing the request rate by building a better product + reducing the request to refund rate by building a better backend to respond to apple request notifications (12h window to answer to requests) once you process a bit more money per day you will see some of this stuff too

If you were waiting for a sign to start building a mobile app, here it is. RevenueCat is seeing a record number of new developers making their first dollar: from ~2,500 in Q3 2024 to ~14,000 in Q1 2026.

refund rate jumped to 16.7% in the past 2 months. i believe my product is genuinely good, but because of tiktok organic i get a ton of college kids forgetting to cancel their trials Apple said: Our investigations indicate your account is not in compliance with App Review Guideline 5.6.4 (App Quality), which states: “Customers expect the highest quality from the App Store, and maintaining high quality content, services, and experiences promotes customer trust. Indications that this expectation is not being met include excessive customer reports about concerns with your app, such as negative customer reviews, and excessive refund requests. Inability to maintain high quality may be a factor in deciding whether a developer is abiding by the Developer Code of Conduct.” Your account may be subject to termination if you engage in activities or actions that do not comply with the Developer Code of Conduct.

how to find your UGC format if you've been stuck for months: you've been posting 2 times a day for 2 months you haven't broken 5,000 views you see everyone on Twitter getting 2 million views i've been in this position multiple times (and have eventually broken through) here's the exact process I run (please like this instead of just bookmarking if you find it useful, otherwise it's pretty demotivating... the tweet gets cooked when people only bookmark. will probably delete if it doesn't get likes lol) 1) account health I've had videos blow up on my main TikTok account (20k followers) that would only get 900 views on my burners here's how to actually verify if the videos are cooked because of account versus format: if your engagement rate is high: TikTok: 500 views and 40 likes 1,000 views and 10 comments none of your videos break 1,000 views (not hard numbers, just general gut-feelings I use) if your videos are consistently getting engagement on TikTok but not breaking through, it *might* be worth starting a new account this usually isn't the case. very rare tbh. your videos probably just suck 2) blindly copying Twitter yes, that newsletter you're subscribed to has good formats. my tweets have some sauce. BUT... most people haven't developed the synapses to actually develop viral formats. they 1:1 copy what the format is instead of understanding the *trajectory* and emotions that made it go viral for instance: you see a "omg I've been doing ____ for 5 years and JUST found this?" hook on Twitter you have 10 creators do it for a month. none blow up. the hook works... for visually stimulating products. for products that have broad audiences that have specific, niche feelings. or, for example you see someone cutting fruit at the beginning of their video and just visually copy that. instead, what they also were doing: 1) had their product playing in the background 2) had an extremely attacking / controversial hook 3) lighting was 10x better than your shitty copy you made on you Android phone when you're studying formats that work, understand them *contextually* - what emotions were they targetting? - what meta on TikTok are they riding? - who was the video meant for? (if you really have no idea, just copy paste the video link into Lightreel and ask it those exact questions + ask it to break down the entire account and they're promoting their product. can analyze the exact thought process they're using) 3) creator-product fit this feels like folklore, but have seen this matter after working with hundreds of creators some creators don't match the audience, or just don't have the right skillset you'll notice the study apps use certain demographics. a lot of AI apps only work with girls. some sports app spam guys only. creator-product fit is *usually* more subtle though some creators can speak with better intonations more naturally. it might be worth mixing up your creators if they are consistently flopping (although again, the problem is probably you and not them) 4) not synthesizing on ideas EcoGPT is the most perfect example of this: - LOTS of videos that are anti-AI - LOTS of "cutting fruit" videos Did EcoGPT just have their creators talk about AI while cutting fruits? NO They synthesized two trends (a TikTok meta + UGC format) And applied it naturally to their product Again, if you really are struggling with this, try taking 3-5 trends in your space or adjacent spaces (and also their account links if you have them) and paste them into Lightreel. Ask it to synthesize how you can apply it to your own product. Push it as hard as you can (I spent a lot of time engineering the way i thinks through trends) tldr: your accounts and creators *might* be cooked (usually not). usually the case is your formats suck are you're 1:1 to copying without thinking about the message you're conveying or angle you're spamming.
